About the fan noise (also your Stardom rack, Makosuke): I'm considering getting a couple of fan speed controllers from eBay to connect between each fan and the temperature sensor/fan 12V power supply board. That should adjust the fan speed automatically as needed (slow/low noise with cool temperatures and faster/noisier if the temperature rises).
The only issue is the third pin of each fan which I believe senses if the fans spin or not (i.e. fan malfunction) alerting the existing enclosure circuitry if that's the case. As long as it doesn't report fan failure regardless of fan speed I'm OK, but if the circuitry reports an error if the fan doesn't spin at full speed I'll have to disconnect that 3rd pin (meaning I won't have any buzzer beep/LED light up if the fans fail).
