Hi all,

Not sure if this topic is in the right forum but please let me know if I need to move!

I am a professional photographer , and using a 2014 5k iMac. I have been dumping all my photos onto external drives for the past 5years (mostly WD), and a friend of mine suggested I go with a NAS storage solution. The information I am researching is overwhelming because I am NOT a techy person and really don’t understand half the language I am reading. It’s pretty Greek to me. Wondering if people can recommend something based on the following.

-my friend recommends Qnap so I’ve been looking at a couple options the ts 673 stands out to me.
- I currently have about 14 or so TB of photos/data spread throughout various external drives on my desk, which I would want to move to the NAS then would like to have maybe another 12++ available. I go through about 4tb/year and would like to have a system that will at least last for another few years before I need to upgrade and expand.
-I am looking at WD red drives at 6tb each
-my IMac has a thunderbolt 2 port I believe- would it be better to get a thunderbolt drive (the TVs 673 is about double the price and I’m not crazy about spending that much) but would there be a thunderbolt 2 version that might be lower in price?
-I also looked at the 453 thunderbolt version, but only has 4 bays instead of 6
-lastly I like to be able to edit photos on my drives , in Lightroom and photoshop.

I hope this is enough info for now. Would love any recommendations you have for a drive. Thanks all!

So by your description you don’t speed you want seem to want a DAS!

If you speed then maybe maybe a large DAS on Thunderbolt 2 hub or straight to Thunderbolt 2 Port! Then get a smart NAS from Synology or QNAP for long Storage!
