I need to get iPhone phooto skills fast and am looking for a book for reasonably technical readers that will walk me through specs, use and potential of cameras for random photography and vlogging. Any suggestions appreciated.

The gear doesn’t make a photographer but the vision and skill. There is no such thing as random photographs in my opinion. Get used to the cameras on the device. Many iPhones use more than one camera system.

Be out there, capture, go home, compare and learn from your results, then repeat.

Good advice I will keep in mind. I think the iPhone will be great for this since it will always be at hand.

There's no "fast" way. It's the hours you put into it that build up the expertise.

iPhone is very easy, in that iOS take a lot of the grunt so you can practice on things like your composition. I would enable the Grid in settings to help in composition.

For vlogging, the important part is audio. There are plenty of youtube videos about tips and tricks.

Absolutely correct!!!
Don't worry so much about camera specs. Some good reads to start your journey are
Exposure by Bryan Petersen
Learning to See Creatively by Bryan Petersen

He explains things in an easy-to-understand way. He is also very thorough. Both these books will get you off to wonderful start
