Let's remember that the Note 5 is called that becasue Samsung is on their 5th iteration of it. Taking notes on the homescreen is a recent new feature. Give Apple some time. I think their Pencil is amazing considering it is their first one since the Newton.

I want to retract my original thoughts. I was thinking about it and well by the time I actually eject the S pen and wait for the screen to respond, I could have unlocked my phone and started a new note. Plus with the S pen I then have something in my hand which I have to then put away again. So really it isn't more convenient. Plus there is only so much I could write on the screen.

Notability is the one I'm using. Has all the features I want like Dropbox backup and PDF annotating too! I don't notice any lag to be honest.

Can I have "multiple" pages in the Apple Notes application? For example I am writing a lot of stuff and I am near the end of the screen, can I say "add more space"?

There is also Notes Plus. This is a great app. But I don't know if it was update for Apple Pencil.

Tried Good Notes on the recommendations above and found I really like it. No lag, lots of paper choices, all the features I need. Only drawback is limited export functionality--basically either PDF or a ZIP file for GoodNotes format--if you want to export an entire notebook.

Definitely worth a look, IMHO.

Having read about Good Notes in another thread I tried it and was very pleased. It's highly responsive, has multiple page styles and all the features I need. The one drawback is limited choices for exporting entire notebooks--basically only PDF or a ZIP file if the notebook in GoodNotes format. It's definitely worth a look.

Do any of the apps have handwriting recognition? I'd love for handwritten notes to be converted to text. Especially when adding notes to PDF's.

Go to the App Store and search for MyScript. They have a number of handwriting recognition apps. They recognize many languages including Asian scipts.

They also have a keyboard replacement so you can use handwriting in any app that uses the on screen keyboard. Look for MyScript Stack.

With a little practice it works quite well. I have a little problem with it making unexpected caps with a few letters, but I've only used it briefly with a Pencil. I used to use this on the Air but it was tiring to write with my finger. I'm entering this post by writing it with the Pencil.

I think that if I stuck with it for a few days l would get pretty good at it.

Just keep typing and scroll up with with your finger. I have notes that go on for quite a while. I don't think I ever add another page.

What's the best app that I can use so I can also view on PC. Would like to take notes but also view it in my work laptop

How's Apple Pencil with OneNote? Is it almost as smooth as built in Notes app? That's what I like to use. Never used it for writing on it though. Just to save notes I could take on my MacBook Pro. Can't wait to be able to just use my iPad Pro and not take a notebook. My iPad Pro comes this week and my keyboard as well... Just waiting on the Pencil............. -_-

I would say overall it is very good. If Apple Notes is the best, GoodNote is right behind it with Notability and OneNote slightly behind GoodNote. All of these won't give you any problem writing and the latency is very minimal. It is hard to describe beyond "feel" and it feels good in OneNote, just not the best.

If you are trying to collect information into one place then I would go with Outline+ or OneNote. Although I found OneNote overall amazing, the fact that you cannot drag around images and resize them after they have been placed is mind-numbingly annoying and I keep threatening to go back to Outline+, but their inking is the worst right now.
I also have taken to using OneNote after trying several of the others; the organization of notebooks and syncing to OneDrive along with making my handwritten notes searchable really put it over the top for me. Your caveat about the inserted images/documents is true, though, and one annoyance that I'm having to learn to live with, though that's not something I do often enough for it to be a deal-breaker.

I like it a lot, though.

Any Noteshelf users? I am not sure if it has been updated for the Pro, and the Pencil. I found the app quite easy to use on my iPad Air 2 + the 53 Pencil.

Onenote or Evernote - personally I prefer the latter.

OneNote or Evernote, I prefer OneNote since I've been using it for quite some time and like the structured nature of it. I do also use Evernote, but more for capture odd pieces of information.

getting my pencil today! so excited.

in terms of annotating pdf files, can i do that for free on the ipad pro or do i need some app for it? I would like to open up my pdfs via email, and just annotate and write comments right away, and email it to others.

is there an easy way to do this? thanks in advance. havent had the chance to play around yet

GoodNotes by far. I can annotate PDFs with it. And it does handwriting recognition which improves the search.

I've tried Notes, too complex. It's overkill. Notes Plus (based on Inkredible) is very pretty but it does suffer some performance issues on my iPad Pro.

Like the other poster said, you can keep typing forever. But the drawing piece is only one section/page at a time. To get more, just tap Done and then tap the squiggle icon again bottom right, it will add a new section right after the last one. So kinda like a new page.

Does anyone know what is a good workflow to draw in a pdf in email? I get a lot of pdf from emails and I need to reply with annotation. PDF or images actually

Replying to myself. I picked up my :apple: Pencil yesterday. Noteshelf has not been updated for iPad Pro, and as a result, looks horrible on the huge screen. I might have to give Notability a shot. What a pity. The amount of $$ I have spent on Note taking apps rivals the $$ I have spent on acquiring Styli. Bleh.

Yes, Notes functions weirdly though and it's not the most intuitive. But when you draw in a note it crates a separate image file which is placed in the note. All you need to do is exit the drawing, type something out below it, and then select draw again and it will create a new image within the note.

Quick question guys. How do these apps organize your notes? If I'm taking notes for college courses and I'd like to folder them by date and category like separate notebook styles, do these apps do that? I guess I could even do this straight in the notes app with new folders.
