It's a shame Amazon doesn't sell the iPad 2 because you have to be in a dream world to think it even compares to a Kindle DX.

Anyone know of an online authorized reseller outside of California that will sell the iPad 2 with a low shipping fee?

Your just going to have to WAIT if you want to buy online with no tax.

Try Macmall tomorrow.

Most likely I will buy it at Best Buy tomorrow. I have some BB gift cards to put to use. But I would save $45 in tax assuming it was from a store like Amazon that offers free 2-day prime shipping.

Yeah, tax certainly jumps up there when you go with the higher capacity models.

I am pretty sure like the original iPad, all purchases for iPad 2 will be done over the phone with third party resellers (macconnection, macmall, B&H). Good thing for us Californians, all these resellers are located out-of-state, meaning no tax and free ground shipping. ;)

B&H has already posted the info, you just have to ring them up for the specific details. G luck!!! Those pesky tax and recycle fees are a rip-off here in Cali...

I forgot about the recycling fee. Do they really charge that for the iPad too? How much is it? Also, I know MacMall charges tax. Not sure about the others. B&H won't, but too bad it takes a week for UPS ground. Hmm.

You can buy goods online in California tax free? This is news to me, and I'm pretty sure unless it's a special promotion it's illegal.

Link me to this glorious website so I'll be shopping here exclusively from now on.

Technically, you're supposed to declare out of state (Internet?) purchases on your California tax return so you can pay the 8.75-~10% sales tax. Not like anyone actually does that, though.

Yup, Amazon here in California is tax free. LOVE IT!

How fast will we get the iPad's from Mac Connection? I don't mind buying from them but I don't want to wait a month... Or even a week.

I'm not sure if the demand will be as crazy this time around as it was for the first gen iPad, but it took a little over a month for my first-gen iPad to get to me from the time that I ordered it last year at launch-time...

http://www.macconnection.com is tax free and free shipping. i ordered my iMac from them a couple years ago. The front page of their site says they will start selling at 5 as well.

I second that. I bought my iMac Black Friday 2009 from Macconnection. No sales tax, free shipping. I'm in CA. :)
Mac Connection did not have online ordering for iPad 1. Phone ordering only. I assume iPad 2 will be the same.

Also I have bought things from Amazon with no sales tax, free shipping.

No way will they be shipping in a month. You guys are making me nervous. I may have to order from apple.com, or just go to the store tomorrow and fork over the extra $62 to enjoy it from day 1. Suck. I am getting on the phone with macconnection first thing in the morning.

Im in CA too and the sales tax rate sux...

I had a few emails back and forth with macconnection today. They will start selling iPad2 at 2pm PST, 5pm EST - Phone orders only.

No tax in CA.

Shipping is free for regular FedEx shipping. They also offer expedited shipping but didn't say how much.

Sounds like they will only sell what they have in inventory so no long waits - when they're out, they're out. I'm gonna call them at 2pm sharp, worth saving the extra $$$ to wait 3-4 days. $60 can buy me a lot of apps.

hey,

my friend is going to LA this week i am planning to get me an ipad2 i just wanted to know how much is the tax over the apple price in LA..

thanxxxx....

I was planning to order one online to save $53 of tax and recycling fees. But with all these possible display issues people are having, it might be worth it to buy locally in case of a need to exchange a bum unit.

I was so ready to call this Sunday at 6:59am Pacific to order one at B&H Photo. But now that I see how widespread the backlight bleed and dead pixel issues are, I will have to wait it out until Apple gets this sorted out.
