I know Apple stores may have them in stock, but it's full retail + tax. Anyone know where I can get my hands on a MBP on release day? Looking to save on tax and shipping cost. A discount would be nice too.

On release day, it's pretty much just the Apple Stores from what I've seen.

    Amazon's usually weeks behind.
    Not sure about MacMall.

You can't buy one on release day. They ship about 2 weeks after.

    And a puppy!

Seriously, we don't even know if they'll be available when they're announced. Sometimes it takes weeks or months for products to ship after announcements. Though this time, since it's pre-Christmas, I think maybe they'll try to get them out the door sooner.

Good luck on the discount though. These are brand-new hot products, not fire-sale items.

You won't be able to get discounts when they first come out. Generally, based on previous new models, it takes Macmall a month or two to get their shipments with the discounts shipped, so it would seem like the Apple Store is your best bet (although likely they won't have them on release day).

Since news of new MB/MBP are shipping. I thought they would be avaliable the day of, just like iPods were.

iPods are a lot easier to make, stock, sell than Macs, and generally Macs arent easily available in Apple Stores until a week after.

iPods are easy to make, small to ship, and outsell the Macbook Pro 100/1.
