Right side, hand and leg, does not work. What is the best computer peripherals to be able to use a PC still for this person please? If anyone knows.

I temporarily lost the use of my right hand from an injury, and found the Magic Trackpad (for a Mac) just as easy to use with my left hand as my right hand, and now still use it with either hand. However, if that person has never used a trackpad it might be more challenging to learn, aside from the other challenges involved.

btw, the Apple Magic Trackpad for Macs is far superior to any other trackpads for PCs, which in my experience have been frustrating in comparison.

Is the person already comfortable with using computers and peripherals, or would this be something new to them?

Also, is the person in either inpatient or outpatient rehab currently? He or she may already be getting some support and suggestions from an occupational therapist there, too, or if not, you might want to suggest that the OT work with the person to help with new strategies with regard to using a computer in the future.

There are specially laid out one handed keyboards. Which could take them a while to get used to. There's also chord keyboards. Which consist of just a few keys you press in combinations to generate letters. Which'll take a while to memorize. Assuming the stroke didn't impact their mental function.

First off. How is their memory and ability to think? If that's been affected. Just stick with what they are already familiar with. They'll eventually adapt to using them with one hand. It'll just take longer to do things than before.

If their mind is still sharp. Maybe look at chord keyboards and Maltron Single handed Keyboards.

As for a mouse. It would depend on motor control. Perhaps a trackball mouse (center trackball). As you can position the cursor. Let your hand off the ball and click with worrying about jerking the cursor. You can also use Mouse Keys in Universal Access. To control the cursor with a numpad.

Always be positive at any improvement they make in recovery. If able. Watch what the various therapists do. So, you can continue the rehab at home. Hopefully, the therapists showed you things you can do to stimulate the nerves on their right side. Assuming there is the any possibility of regaining feeling and function.
