Best place deal on buying new Imac?

Probably Amazon. You might be able to save a few $$ through Mac Connection or something, but you'll have to deal with mail-in rebates.
 
You are legally required to pay tax on all online purchases, unless you live in a state like Oregon that has no tax. The only difference between Apple and Amazon is that Apple choses to charge you tax.
