You will get a bunch of people wasting your time, not showing up, low balling you and other nonsense but you walk away with cash and end of story.

Lol such a true statement. But if you're smart about a meet up spot, go with someone, etc. it's really not too bad. But ya, for every good guy on CL, there's 5 weirdos. I'll never understand it. I spent hours trying to sell an iPhone 7 recently texting people who would commit to buy the thing and then would flake 30 minutes before we were supposed to meet up.

I've sold a handful of iPhones on eBay. The only time i had an issue is when i decided to sell international. Sell only to USA if choosing eBay.
+1 . I would never, ever sell to a country outside the US on eBay. Before I learned this years ago, can't tell you how many "I can wire transfer money for the phone it's for my daughter" stories I encountered. It's almost comical reading the messages you get

I get those messages every year without fail from someone in the US (I'm in Canada) through CL. They'll always offer to pay extra for shipping too making it look like such a good deal.

You'll get the best value for your phone doing it CL but it takes time and effort. I find the best meeting places are coffee shops and go with someone else. This year I've had some issues selling mine so I think I might settle for Swappa.

CL is a great option too. Just make sure you do it at a safe place like various police departments have eCommerce places in their building for such transactions.

And this is the reason people don't want to hassle with it. Last time I listed my iPhone 6 in mint condition, I got 40+ emails, low ball offers, etc. Setup meetings with 5 people, all 5 flaked.

I like the idea of putting a new passcode/icloud password on the phone. If they claim an empty box arrived-phone is useless. It forces them to reach out and ask for password, admitting it arrived.

I hear you. It's a big waste of time sometimes. I used to get my phone blow up with 30-40 phone calls a day.
Some offering half of what I'm asking or they would like to trade a used laptop and an old blender plus $100 for my iPhone and other similar craziness :D

Watch swappa. I'm currently dealing with a guy who I sold a phone 3 months ago. He was happy and loved the phone, now all of the sudden he says he can't make calls on Verizon network so he's gonna file a dispute

I've always sold my old phone on Craigslist. I specify cash only and a face to face meetup at a local Starbucks that I know is filled with Cops. So far so good.

Swappa is good. I have used them before but its PayPal that you have to worry about if a buyer tries to fraud you somehow. No matter what evidence you have, the buyer will 99.9999% win.

Always best to use a site where you can just sell your phone and not worry about fraud, something like Gazelle etc...

I used to always sell my phones on eBay for maximum profit but the last few phones I have had trouble with bad buyers.

Sell only to 100% feedback users and more the 50 sell/buy record, and that doesn't mean you are safe so sell only with pickup only cash pay then pay the fees to eBay

I feel like this is a potential problem with Swappa and eBay, and that's partly why places like Gazelle pay far less. Because they can, and because they need to.

Can you do this on Ebay still? I thought cash transactions were banned a while back.

Swappa and ebay use paypal and paypal has a 6 month dispute period. But you can win a dispute if the phone was delivered and the buyer admits it was working when they received it. You are not required to provide a 6 month warranty on the phone but you do have to respond to the buyer and follow paypal's rules.

You can prove the phone is not blacklisted by typing it's IMEI in swappa's IMEI checker or Verizon's BYOD checker. Is the buyer claiming the device is blacklisted by Verizon?

No, he's been using it for 3 months and says one morning it wouldn't make calls on the Verizon network. It powers on, wifi works, everything works like it should. It just doesn't connect to Verizon. So he wants to return it. To me.

Be sure and read through all of paypal's buyer and seller guarantee information so that you follow the rules.

You have to use electronic payment method if picking up. And if he uses paypal, you can still get chargebacks. With all this hassle you propose, there is no reason not to use CL in this scenario.
