The nearest apple store near me is around 2 hours away, so it’s very inconvenient for me to go and grab one :( the shipping dates are around mid December. At this rate, should I just hold onto my 8 and wait till next year’s model, or is the X worth waiting for?

Best place is the place that has one in stock. It's not like you have a choice right now. You grab it where you can if you must have it pronto. But mid-December is almost here and also Apple's delivery rate seem to be improving quickly so likely will be before then.

But if you have an 8 do you also have a plan that allows for serial upgrading? I wouldn't take a huge hit on a brand new phone like that. Money murder in the 1st degree.

Well I bought it outright so I can just sell it and get the X, but I choose to not finance it in situations like this.

I found my X from my carrier. You can see about local pickup when you order online.
Target and Best Buy also sell them (I have no idea about availabilities), and I could be wrong but Walmart may offer the iPhone X as well.

Have not seen any availability for preorder at our local store so I would say that the carriers are the best place to find. Like maflynn says the retailers just might have one.

Seems to me the supply has got tighter!

That seems about right. I had gotten a 64 gig silver from Target on launch day, but I returned it to try my luck at finding a 256. Saw one available yesterday for a split second, but it was gone before I could complete checkout. Haven't seen anything other than that locally. Target/Best Buy and the AT&T stores around me have been getting little to no shipments since launch day.

nope, best place is through the Apple store by placing an online order for in-store pick-up the minute Apple replenishes stock. Usually takes place at 6am local time a few times a week, although seen stock become available late at night as well. You have to be very quick as the stock gets snatched up in mere minutes. I advise having Apple pay set-up and the iphone config set-up in favorites. Then starting at 5am ever am just keep refreshing app every 10 minutes until 5:55am and then every 10 seconds until after 6am.

Thanks for that valuable information. I have no idea!

Thanks guys. At this rate, not sure it’s worth the trouble cause then I’ll have to call and get my AC+ transferred from my 8 to the X if I decided to get one, and then sell my 8 for the best price possible.

Target seems to list only one model for all carriers. Do you know what it is exactly? CDMA compatible with any ?
One SKU online and they have different models in store?

They don't actually transfer your AC+ - you get the pro-rated refund on the 8, then you pay for the X separately - but they can do a straight application of the credit to the purchase, so you're only paying the delta. AC+ on the X is also more expensive.

I'd take a look on Swappa and Craigslist to see what people are selling their 8's for so you have an idea of what market value is now. Then decide if the hit's worth it.

There was stock this morning. In NYC, still some availability
I think using the browser notifications of iStockNow is a much better way to get notified, rather than refreshing the app constantly for half an hour - you might get tendinitis / carpel tunnel!! :D

We've seen some of the stores not post their stock until well after 6am....

Then you get the reservation cancellations that pop up during the day.

I haven’t tried the iStockNow way. Heard it’s effective too.

It's the CDMA phone with the Qualcomm modem. I had a 64 from Target and returned it to try and find a 256. Still looking

Heh. You mean the e-mail notifications? Yep, get those too. Or do you mean that you have an app that receives push notifications?
Which protocol are you using? The browser notifications are a lot quicker than e-mail.

The actual audio notifications didn't really seem to be working a couple of weeks ago when I was using the browser notifications page - figure you guys got more than enough feedback from the users here to get it fixed. :)

We use a bot + telegram
https://www.istocknow.com/bot

We did a lot of testing, should have been a facebook bot but rate limits killed it, then we moved to Telegram which works really well!
Still has room for improvement but as fast as we send emails (we use a (very) expensive premium service) the push is more convenient.

Oh jeez, another IM. I wonder if this one is also a former BB co-op that stole IP. ;)

Anwho...thanks for the info! :)

When looking for the phone, you need to lower your standards on what you want, that is, are you willing to accept a lower capacity phone, or a different color? I was lucky that they had the capacity that I wanted, and I didn't mind the color

My first X was a space grey 256. Now have the Silver 256. Did not matter what color as I slip it into a case and never see the color. Without bezels, life is easier. Liking my X, how about you?
