Best protective case for 2017 iPad 12.9”?

My mom currently has an iPad with an otterbox defender on it and doesn’t like it. She has a leather folio on her other iPad and does like it, but it’s not very protective (the corners are exposed). Any ideas what I should get for the new 12.9" iPad? Thanks!

When I bought my original 12.9 there was an Apple back cover that matches the Smart Keyboard and the combo is lightweight and highly protective. (The back cover has a raised lip that protects the screen and corners.)

I don’t see anything like this now on the Apple Store. I’d look at Amazon for folios (I’ve had good luck there for past iPads). Just make sure you buy something with Amazon’s return policy as the quality of these third party cases can vary.

i’m against any always-on cases.

when i bought my lv ipad case (original size) at the flagship store on champs elysee, they told me their design philosophy was “you can open it to quickly check messages, but for any real use, you should pull it out of the case”.

and i agree with this philosophy. any case will make the entire thing heavier, and ipads are pretty tough even in naked form.

got a 12.9 coming in the mail, all i bought this time was a 13” laptop sleeve for $12 at walmart

and i agree with this philosophy. any case will make the entire thing heavier, and ipads are pretty tough even in naked form.

Oh balderdash. I don’t want to pull it out of a case. I for sure don’t want to pull it out of a case and lay it flat.

A case with any kind of folding cover is useful. At least if you want to, you know, type on a keyboard (in which case having it propped up is an obvious benefit. Or if you’re reading a long PDF and prefer not having to hold it. Or if you’re watching a movie or baseball game and wish to have a drink or eat . . . or if you need to reference documents while you work on or read paper forms or . . .

For my use case (using the iPad Pro for 90% of my work and leisure use), I’d never want to be without a way to prop it up.

i agree, i have a simple book holder from daiso (asian 99c store). and the lv case folds to stand

What is the best case. -- Personal Preference see the Sticky at the top of the Accessories Board, long but worth it.

Why a case?
Slips, dings, dents, scratches, stand for keyboard pen holder. As far as how tough IPADs are well it just makes sense to protect your 1k investment for Resale Value.

My philosophy is the complete opposite.

Accidental drops don't just happen when the iPad is nestled in a sleeve during transports. It can also happen during usage. Even if one were to use it on a spacious table top, constant contact between two objects will result in microscopic scratches due to friction even if the user doesn't outright see it; it'll be present. Regardless of how careful one may be, regardless of its durability, it only take one drop or accident to potentially cause hardware or cosmetic issues. My other philosophy is to avoid branding and stick with conservative, classic, timeless designs. And a Louis Vuitton case with its trademark LV branding all over the place is incredibly loud. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
