When we start to get monitors that are USB-C, would that also charge the macbook eliminating the need for the adapter?
It's likely. I expect we'll have at least one on the market in the next six months, but that's just my gut feeling.

personally I think the Dell 34" looks better than the LG units. Only drawback is it doesn't have Thunderbolt. The dell 34" curved was on sale @ newegg for $800 shipped, though, which is one HECK of a deal.

Thing to note, and I don't know if the LGs have them, but the dell has a setting in menu to switch gamma between "PC" and "Mac". The difference between these two settings is significant [IE, viewing the mac on "PC" mode makes it look not so great, and same with viewing a PC on "Mac" mode.

Here's a question for y'all: regarding the aforementioned Dell U2515H – are you connecting to it via HDMI or DisplayPort? I'm exploring picking up a new MacBook and the whole external display situation is what I'm trying to solve. Going USB-C to DisplayPort isn't really an option as I won't be able to plug the machine in…

I would use the Apple adapter and HDMI. Not really much of anything available at the moment for displayport hubs for the MacBook, and no advantage in this situation.

I use Apple Digital A/V adapter and HDMI. U2515H also supports audio pass through over HDMI. No need for DP, and as you say - there are no adapters that support simultaneous DP video and charging.

so even at 1080p HiDPI on a 4k display like the 24" P2415Q using a USB-C to MiniDisplay Port cable, the refresh rate cannot be 60hz?

LG curved is fantastic with the Macbook. Have one at home and one at work. The one plug design really delivers and having three windows open on the curved display is amazing for getting stuff done. I use Bettersnaptool to organise them quickly in three rows.

Very nice. Are you connecting via HDMI? What resolution are you using it at? Native or something scaled?

With the LG you can choose between 30 and 50 Herzt on the Mac in the System Preferences under Displays.

Thanks for your replay, and are you running Yosemite or EI Capitan beta?Maybe I should consider to roll back to Yosemite= =
My refresh rate was locked to 30Hz(NTSC)

I don't know if U2515H picture is "like Retinas" ("retina" is mostly a marketing term anyway).. But it's a high quality 25" 1440p display, I am very happy with it.

This monitor works with no issues?

I'm using a 1440p QNIX and the display flckers when I use it with my macbook 12" (2016). I've tried multiple cables and multiple adapters. I'm trying to rule out my macbook as the culprit. This monitor has been great to me with every other input source.

I am using a Dell U2515H with no issues at all. I have a MacBook M7 2016 but have previously used it with a 2015 model as well.

Thanks. I have an m7 2016 as well. I ended up getting an LG 27UD88-W. I like the idea of it doubling as my usb-c hub and others seem to have it working fine with the MacBooks.

thats my current setup. 4K at 60Hz. not crazy about HiDPI res though but will live with it.

Is it better to invest into the LG 4K mentioned above or go with a QHD Acer h277hu if we don't need 4K? (Never seen 4K monitors in RL, what are the benefits - besides video editing room?)

I do the same with a 34inch curved Dell monitor. Works perfect. No complaints
