Navigon is a one time purchase, maps and app are regularly updated.
Look for it on sale (I paid $79 a few years ago and consider it money well spent )

Don't know about small lane syndrome with Navigon (I live in city), Garmin tends to take you longer distances just to have you drive on the freeway for 1/2 a mile.

That is aggravating !

This is what I seein the US App Store...

I tried all the free ones suggested but in the end they were far from good.

Google maps had to load as it went along which meant bad signal or dropouts made for difficult navigation. Also was very basic not listing speed, speed limits etc...

Waze was incredibly hard to see and navigate with and kept popping up with unrelated traffic reports which would block the screen and stop me seeing directions.

I bought the tomtom app and its money well spent! I got the app for £27 (30% discount at the
Moment) and hd traffic for £20. I also got the tomtom speed camera app which offered a free year of live speed cameras and restored the purchase in the full Tom Tom app. I then bought £50 iTunes voucher for £40 so I spent £40 and got the full tomtom package normally about £80 or so.

The app is really good with clear navigation. Speed limits, current speed, speed cameras, reroute a every 3 mins to see if there is a better route if there is traffic. Etc...

Shame it doesn't reroute according to floods though!
