OK, I'm looking for a simple text editor, like notepad for windows, I don't really need any developer feature, just a simple app, that's all I long for :p

And I need some recommendations, thank you very much! :)

*comes walking into the thread with an asbestos jump suit*

The best editor is vi. It's not simple, but it is deadly.

As above...Textedit comes built in, and will do exactly what you want. No need to spend money on third party stuff.

Should have said.....It's in your applications folder..

Hmmm. I've used vi every day for two decades at work and I hate it with a passion.

Since they were asking about a Notepad equivalent, TextEdit is what they're looking for.

Text Edit is fine for me. It doesn't cost anything.

    TextWrangler for me.
It is free and the Grep (regular expression) search and replace functions are awesome.

While Macromates did open source TextMate, it hasn't received a notable update for a while.

I highly recommend Sublime Text 2. It's highly active, cross-platform, and compatible with TextMate bundles.

Man, you have bigger problems than looking for a text editor :D
What you need is an account just for her, with normal (not admin) rights :D

Oddly enough, I did get an update just a couple of days ago.

In fact, TextMate 2 updates a little bit too often for my taste.

TECO and DECword were worse... Possibly...

OH, but they don't run on Macs. (Thank Ford)

Just restore it from your backup. You do have a backup?

    Otherwise, I like TextWrangler.

I'll throw one, especially as the OP was not needing developer features.

    http://mouapp.com

I have been using this one for a while. It's a Markdown editor, which has a live preview option. If you choose not to have this, its a plain text window.

    No fancy extras, just simple.

For the moment its free as its in beta, so you have nothing to lose.

    :)
