So your objective is to shoot video at a friends wedding:

1. I can not possibly imagine a situation where you would record for 30+
minutes straight, even with a standard AVCHD digital video camera....

2. Unless you plan on using the camera to get into still photography as well, you are much, much, much better off with a dedicated video camera, especially considering it seems that you are very "Green" in this area, not to be taken as an insult.


Sure, the dSLRs produce stunning video, but if you are not able to first produce stunning photos, chances are you're going to be producing un-useable video. Out of focus video. Shaky video. Etc...-But a dedicated video camera will take care of that for you ;)

Also- Please, please, please be mindful of where you are located when shooting, for the sake of the final products from the photog/videographer for the bride and groom! Have fun and learn :)
