Hi everyone, so after just about a year (or just over actually) with my August smart lock I'm finally done. I had an awful experience with customer service that caused me days without a working lock. Now after a visit from the family the lock is broken again and fails to completely unlock the door. So I'm now in search of a new lock. The main reason I went with a smart lock in the first place was so I could take my dog for a walk and go out for runs without my iPhone or keys. August does have an Apple Watch app but it is awful. I need a lock maker that has a decent Apple Watch app. I unfortunately cannot rely on Homekit either, it fails more than the August app.

So just looking for some suggestions on a lock that will work well with the Apple Watch :)

We have used the Yale smart lock for our entry from the garage for three years now. For our front door we kept the deadbolt casing but replaced it with a Level. Looks much nicer since it’s the spot that’s visible. But we are happy with both locks. both work well with HomeKit integration

Schlage Sense (HomeKit version) working excellent for almost 4 years now. Also, VocoLink w/HomeKit working for a year excellent. Not a single failure to lock or unlock. Just don’t use their apps they are horrible.

We have 2 Schlage Sense locks and they work great in HomeKit. Every open and close provides notification on my phone/watch and no problem with lock function even from a distance. The locks have a keypad and key for emergencies, but haven't had to use either alternative in the past 3 years. It's great to be able to check the doors from upstairs in a big old house without going downstairs and to know that I will be notified should someone attempt to break in......despite the fact that we have an early warning dachshund system in place 😉.

I have the August Smart Lock like the OP (mine's a first gen, not sure about his), and I've been wanting to upgrade as well. I'm waiting for the locks Apple mentioned at WWDC, which use UWB or NFC, to come out. I'll likely be upgrading to one of those as, I agree, August's implementation, especially on the Apple Watch, is lacking.
