Year ago I used FileFinder by Macmagna but I recently learned it is discontinued. I have a lot of drives I leave unmounted with backups on them and Filefinder was useful to see what was on each drive without having to mount them.

Is there a new software option I do not know about that does this? Or better yet, does OS X do this now? I am running El Capitan.

    thanks

Something like DiskCatalogMaker might work for you. It looks good and is popular.

I use DiskTracker with El Capitan and it works fine. I've paid for it and have been using it for many years. I will say that DiskCatalogMaker looks better.

Thanks. Filefinder still works so maybe I'll stick with it until I have a problem (seeing that it's paid for and those other items I need to buy).
