The new ones have had terrible problems. I used a vertex 3 in my SATA 3 port for two months with occasional hiccups (beachballs), but I got so sick of it I just put the old SATA 2 drive back in. No more hiccups, and the machine is just as responsive.

When faced with a choice between reliability and speed, always choose reliability.

If you look at my sig, you will see I am using a Crucial M4 with a 2011 MBP (15") with no problems at all. Not a beachball to be seen.

Yeah, it looks like crucial figured this one out with there 002 firmware. The 001 firmware was having lots of problems. Unfortunately, none of the other drive manufacturers have addressed this issue as of yet. Certainly the sandforce community is suffering the most, but even the intel 510 is having it's share of problems.

I guess if you are going to use a SATA 3, the Crucial is the one to go with. Wish I had known that two months ago:eek:

Maybe because Crucial aren't using Sandforce? ;) Sure, you lose maybe 10% performance to the Vertex 3, but the 512GB drive I have was half the price of the 480GB Vertex 3 and has zero problems in my MBP. Mind you, I'm also using a 15" MBP and most of the problems I've seen have been with 17" models.
