Hi, I'm new to the world of Apple, so i started out by buying my friend's old Macbook pro. it's a 13 inch 2010 edition and the 1st thing i want to do is upgrade the the hdd to a ssd and the ram from 4 to 8/16gb. Can someone help me by listing some good compatiable SSDs and ram sticks.

I have the 13" MBP 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (mid 2010) - which I think is going to be the same model as rodri05 mentions - and the max RAM on this machine according to Crucial is 8GB not 16GB.

You can use the system scanner tool on Crucial.com to double check.

I have OCZ Agility 4 in 2007 Alu iMac (SATA2 obviously). Pretty good result. Write speed actually faster than my 2012 Air!

And OCZ Vertex 4 in Late 2011 Macbook Pro, which is SATA3, also does well, look at write speed...

It's 16GB, even though Apple and Crucial say 8GB.
*Originally, both the official and actual maximum RAM was 8 GB. However, as confirmed by site sponsor OWC, if running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, updated with the latest EFI, and equipped with proper specification memory modules, this model can support up to 16 GB of RAM.

hi there!
i'm searching an SSD (in a caddy or optibay) for my 2010 13" macbook pro.
I wish to improve my workflow with Adobe Premiere Pro And Logic Pro..

Now i have a 750gb Scorpio Black and 8gb of crucial's Ram

have to choose between this models:
1) Crucial M500 240gb
2) Samsung 840 basic 250gb

Samsung is cheaper...so if there isn't difference with the Crucial (i have Sata II on my mbp) i'll go for it.

thank you

Hi everybody!
If I understand correct my MacBook Pro Mid 2010 is compatible with 16 GB DDR 3 1333 MHz CL 9. About SSD it ia Samsung 840 Pro. But I would ask it is my MBP is compatible with PCI Express (PCIe) x4 SSD. Please for your advise!

Your MacBook uses a SATA drive interface and not PCIe.

Oh my god. I just upgraded to a Crucial MX200 drive on my 2012 MBP and it's like a new computer. The system booted in 10 seconds. Applications open instantly. It's worth every penny.

Edit: I just imported my mail messages on my new hard drive and it imported more than 3500 emails in less than a minute. Amazing.

i have the MX200 in my Mid 2010 MBP, it's a beast!!!

I use a Samsung 840 SSD and its blazing fast. As for RAM, I'm using 8GB of standard OCZ 1333MHz DDR3 and it hasn't given me any problems.

I can highly recommend both of these brands. I'd hold on to the original HDD and RAM though, just in case.

Best of Luck!

I have the same SSD in my Macbook Pro 13"v 2010 and it works great! Samsung 840 SSD. Very fast, and gave it new life!

double "yup".

I put 16 GB of RAM in with the Samsung 840 SSD...it is a new laptop! Now just have to replace the battery (only getting about 3-4 hours now...RAM or SSD not the reason, just old battery.

Yeah I had the same experience. Did a Samsung 830 256gb a few years back along with a new battery and maxed ram. We still use it and don't really see a massive speed difference between it and the new machine.

I still have a MBP Mid 2010 13-inch with 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, but with a slow HDD Seagate Momentus XT 500gb.
I see that you guys suggest Crucial M500 240gb or Samsung 840 basic 250gb but it's hard to find these models nowadays. Theres any other models that should work on my MBP and give a good improvement?

Thanks

PS: My disk speed test at the moment...

Thread is 18 months old! Sure there are more choices now.

No kidding! Re: 18 month old thread.

Frys has the 512GB Samsung 850 on sale for $149 with promo code. Newegg seems like every day has some decent SSD on sale.
