Your machine will be speed constrained by the its SATA II interface, so I would get whatever is cheapest. The Samsung 840 seems to work well for many users here and is inexpensive.

I agree in the sense that it's useless to buy the fastest SSD out there as you won't get the benefit (SATA II), I'd go for reliability and capacity.

Back when I had that machine, I used an Intel X25-M (and was happy with it), but those are no longer available...

I would just get the regular. For your usage, there is no need to spend the extra money on the Pro. Read this thread from post #2021 forward for more info.

I believe we have the same Macbook, because it's only capable of SATA II speeds, I bought the Crucial V4. A perfect little 128GB SSD at a very reasonable price.
