Where to find 34nm 120 SSD for 100 bucks?

So if you get a MBP, you can go from a standard HDD to a 120 SSD, that uses 34nm flash memory, for 100 bucks....you would be crazy not to.

So where are you finding these 34nm 120 SSDs for $100?

OWC rules...what a pseudo-statistical ******** to say QWC is to small to compare it to other SSD producers???

That's the Intel 320 that you're looking at. The Crucial is one above that.

Bifocals aren't working right! I've been running the Crucial M4 for a week or so now and couldn't be more pleased. I suspect popularity polls like this have many variables: SSD size/price, installed base, etc... I was having some hanging and beachballs after installing the M4, but after the firmware update it is almost flawless, so far. 256GB in main HD bay on 17" MBP 8,3. Xbench 413.44.

He is referring to the BTO option of adding an Apple SSD when buying your MBP from the online store. You can add the 128 GB SSD option for $100.

THanks for clarifying, although currently the 128 SSD option in the Apple store is an additional $200 for the MacBook Pros. I would have for sure gotten one for $100.

I assume you gave a 2011 MBP, which size do you have of the MBP? Which M4 did you get. I like the M4 and have been waiting on feedback on it for the 15" MBP 2011 model. What problems have you had since the firmware update.

How come no one is a fan of the new Crucial M4's? Crucial is a solid company and the price seems appropriate.
No problems here. I put a 512GB M4 in my 2008 MBP recently. it was the only 500GB+ SSD I could get at short notice when the 7200 RPM drive failed, and the price is OK for the size in SSD terms although still pretty expensive when all's said and done. However it's added a big performance boost of course.

Just an additional $100 for a BTO MBP with a 128GB SSD seems like a great bargain to me. What kind of performance can we expect from this SSD? What brand is it?

I currently have a G2 Intel X-25M in my 2007 MBP and love it. I'm soon shopping for a new MBP and wonder if Apple's stock SSD will perform better or worse than my current SSD.

Depending on your usage, it may be a little faster. It's write speed is about 3 times the G2, although its read speed is about the same. With that said, real world differences between them will probably be minimal. Heck, real world differences between the G2 and the fastest SATA2 SSDs at least seems to be minimal as well. But I would still go for the Apple/Toshiba drive, if for no other reason than it seems that there have been some issues with the 2011 MBP and various SSDs.

I agree. $125 for the 128GB 6Gb/s at Newegg right now. Excellent user reviews. 85% of the reviews rate it at 5 stars.

For those with SSD, what "real world" benefit are you seeing besides a faster startup, shutdown and opening programs? If you spend 90% of your time INSIDE a program (like browsing online, on YouTube, etc), what benefit do you experience?

If you've already got 8GB of RAM (such as in a 2.53 GHz 2009 MBP), I don't see how SSD is going to dramatically increase your user experience unless you're really into the speed of opening and closing things. I leave most of my primary programs open most of the time and just close my lid at night until the next day arrives.

For me, other than what you mentioned, I personally like the 100% quiet notebook (as long as fans aren't running) and the extra piece of mind knowing how durable the SSDs are compared to the HDD.

I got the 256 Crucial M4, loving it.

I think the reason why its not getting love is because the poll is old. I'm sure that it would be different results now, especially after the firmware updates on the M4.

I think if you video edit the SDD helps too.

Edit: just noticed the samsung isn't on the list. I think the M4 and the Samsung are the two favourites not the forums here nowadays, just from reading posts.

Silent operation, reduced heat, slight increase in battery life.
