Recent jailbreaker of iPhone 5 and looking to get the best tethering solution available. This is really the only reason I jailbroke so far. Sometimes I gotta work from home or stuck at airport and would like to use my LTE unlimited data plan to create a WIFI hot spot. Took a quick look and saw TetherMe, MyWi, and PDANet. TetherMe looks like the cheapest solution at $5 and looks like it does exactly what I need it to do. Any complaints? Should I look at MyWi instead?

From what it sounds like, there is no way to "hide" my tethering from Verizon? I'll probably use it 3-4 times a month if that.

You will be fine with tetherme.
I wouldnt worry about hiding it from verizon since they wont bother you about it.

tetherme apparently does the best at hiding because it uses a different api then your carrier does

    Not really.
Many people got caught by AT&T before using tetherme.
No method is full proof in making it undetectable.

TetherMe seems to work the best and simplest. It uses the built in tethering (and seems to even keep it enabled when you're unjailbroken!) and I've used it a lot and never gotten caught by sprint, so it seems to do a pretty good job of hiding it.

Been using MyWi for years now on iPhone 3G-5 and iPad 1&3. Never had a problem with AT&T.
Rarely my computer won't recognize the connection but unplugging and replugging USB always fixes it and I don't think I've had any issues at all since upgrading to JB iOS 6.1.
I almost always use USB mode but the hotspot works well too.

If you have Verizon then don't worry about hiding anything. First of all, there is no way of hiding the fact that you tether from your carrier. With Verizon, due to the FCC ruling, they cannot charge you extra for using a third party tethering solution.

I personally use mywi and have not had any issues.

How did you come up with the conclusion that its the best at hiding tethering?
I could say its the worst but that doesnt mean anything when we dont even know how exactly they figure out unofficial tethering on their end.
So your statement is just pretty much hearsay.

PDAnet is available for free, but will prevent you from visiting secure sites.

hearsay? not at all buddy, i used both mywi and tetherme, mywi uses your devices default carrier api to send out the signal to tether, while tetherme uses a different random api to do it. what are you the mywi creator. stop getting butthurt over someones statement about a program. i could care less what the person uses the person asked a question and I answered them to the best of my knowledge, sorry your hurt over that.

Not hurt at all, I can care less.
I have purchased and used both packages. Just simply fixing your false statement that its the best at hiding unofficial tethering cause its obviously not since many people got caught by AT&T while using it. Doesnt matter what api it uses. They can still tell wether you're using tetherme, mywi or pdanet.
Its a risk no matter what you use if you're on AT&T, that's the bottom line.

    I like them both.
Mywi has a few more advanced features but for the every day user tetherme would be fine and its priced right:)

Use TetherMe, it works great. Im using it for the same reason, i have the Unlimited Verizon plan as well and use it to allow my son to tether his iPod or the wife to tether the iPad from time to time.

From what I understand- and someone please correct me on this- if you're on a limited plan and use a tethering app you are less likely to get caught.

If you're on a limited VZW plan, you're ALLOWED to tether.
