I need to replace my Macbook battery. It is user replaceable and considering the Macbook's age (2008), I'm only going to get a third party battery. (Yes, I need to replace computer itself; it's on my to do list.) What are the brands to buy?

It is hit and miss with those things. I have the late 2008 Unibody MacBook and bought a battery in January that lasted 4 weeks. Ordered one from another source and it's doing well. Based on the reviews at Amazon you'd think that all the sellers have good and bad ones.

I've had really bad luck with the batteries from OWC. MBP 17" early 2011. The first one was worse that the original I was replacing, it would go dead overnight in sleep mode and took out my external back up HD. OWC replace it and that one just caused my MBP to crash, Panic CPU 2 error, the Apple hardware test confined it was a battery issue.

Arrgh. I guess I will just keep my existing batteries for now, for my 2008 MacBook and 2009 MacBook Pro. These both have their original batteries.
