Is it still true that Transmission is banned from some trackers?

I just installed Vuze (aka Azureus 3), and if nothing else it is nice looking. They also have a lot of built in channels where special "authorized" content is posted through various partners and the community. For instance, you can watch all of the original Voltron episodes there.

I'm trying out Transmission for the first time right now. Downloading a 500mb+ file. I'm not on a very fast connection since I'm using AT&T mobile broadband and only hitting the EDGE network at that out here in the country so my max download speed is usually 25-28KB/s average. Does anyone have any suggested tweaks for Transmission to improve download speeds to get the most out of my connection? Mobile broadband blocks port forwarding so that definitely puts a hurt on download speeds but when I've downloaded torrents in the past I've gotten pretty close to my max speed. Right now I'm pulling a file that has several seeders but my download speed is mostly hanging around <5KB/s :/. Maybe I should try Azureus instead?

I tried Azureus. Found it was too hard to use I guess. Transmission has a very easy GUI and its way easier than Azureus.

So I use transmission.

The only feature Azureus has that I wish Transmission had was the ability to use multiple trackers. However, that alone isn't enough to justify having to deal with the slow, resource hungry java application that Azureus is.

I'm downloading a torrent file with Transmission and I had paused the download the other day and just tried to resume now but I'm getting a message underneath the download saying "Error: access denied, leeching forbidden, you are only allowed to seed". It's downloading now though, just not uploading. Am I going to be able to finish downloading the file this way or do I need to update the tracker or something like that? I don't know much about torrent files.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out the problem lol.

Drag and drop the torrent file into the Transmission window and the download will start.

I started with Azureus, but didn't care for it, switched to Transmission and have been happy ever since.

thnx for the response. the transmission finished downloading the .torrent file but i cant get it to play. do i need another app to get the file to play??

What did you download ;) if you don't mind answering this one. If its AVI file i would suggest you VLC player. or Download DIVX player from DIVX website.

But still depends what the extension of the file you downloaded. Transmission is just a client so it won't play the file its just gone download it for you..

Well naturally that is going to depend on what file you downloaded. Different files are opened with different programs. If it's a video file such as a movie or whatever then download VLC media player and try that first. If it's a large file compressed inside of like a RAR folder which has a ton of small RAR parts inside of it then you just need to extract the contents to get the actual install file. You're going to have to be more specific lol.

ok sorry about that, i told you guys i'm new to this torrent thing and macs. anyways, i downloaded a episode of Lost the tv show and i was reading something that you need to unzip the files and i download an app called The Unarchiver. i'm prolly not using it rite 'cuz when i try to extract the file nuttin i cant even find it.
where do i download this VLC player from?? i'm so terrible at this!!

Transmission - lightweight and easy to use. But I often use utorrent on my pc as it consistently achieves higher download speeds.

Transmission FTW!

Another firm vote for Transmission here :)

It's been unbanned from most trackers now, as it's one helluva lot better than it used to be. Azureus is just too much of a hefty bastard to be useful to me.

I've downloaded lots and lots of Bittorrent Clients and they all sucked except Vuze(Azureus)
I suggest you use Azureus as it is the best out there for MBP

Azureus has faster download speeds and is more customizable but is a system hog.

Transmission has slightly slower download speeds, is less customizable, but is very lightweight and easy to use.

Another vote for Transmission for being easy to use and easy on system resources. A negative vote for Azereus for just being a total system hog :)
