I'm looking to upgrade from my 1.5GHz 12" PowerBook G4 to a Core Duo MacBook. Apple is hosting a Thank You night in Seattle and has cut prices on non-refurb Core Duo MacBooks (not the Core 2 Duo) and will comp the taxes (which is 8.8% here). I just wanted some advice on what you think the best value for the price is:

1.83 GHz MacBook $849 (no tax)
2.0 GHz MacBook $899
2.0 GHz BlackBook $999

I'm leaning towards the white 2.0 GHz myself, but if you have opinions on going for the BlackBook I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

not a no-brainer. the black one seems more palatable for only $100 more (as opposed to $200 more). the black one will have better resale value.

I don't know, other than the Keylime iBook, I don't think colour has made much of a difference in resale value of Macs.

Plus, there's plenty of people who prefer the white one, even at the same cost. It's totally personal preference.

When and where is this Thank You night in Seattle going on?
My aunt lives there. Might just have her buy it for me.. 😉

As a macbook owner that wouldnt have even switched if it weren't for a non-white apple product then I agree. BUT, by the time you resell both will look like crud. The white is easily scratched and dirt-friendly while the black is a magnet for finger-grease. I love my blackbook but from the looks of it you'd never guess this was less than a month old.

definitely white 2.0GHz, only $50 more give you superdrive.
Black one ask for $100 more while doesn't give u any significant improvement over white 2.0GHz.

thats cool...

Yea, but I don't think WA residents have to pay an income tax, which is nice.

Kimo

... students like me dont pay income tax, but we incur huge debts which is why i cross statelines into delaware for tax free shopping. I heard WA has good nugs too.😉

When is this event? I have been thinking of getting a Macbook refurb...these prices are even better especially with sales tax being comped! I actually would go for the black, but it is less of a value.

I would go with the black one, specially since there's only a $100 difference. As stated above, it'll probably have a higher resale value, plus it looks more professional than the white MB.

That being said, I think the 2.0 White MB is the best bang for the buck.

The "Thank You" event sponsored by Apple takes place today at the UW Bookstores in Seattle, and I believe in Bothell and Tacoma as well.

Hello, I'm in a somewhat similar predicament in being tempted by closeout CD MBs, vs the new C2D models. Can I get a quick straw poll on these two, please?

2.0GHz Intel Core Duo 1GB/80GB SuperDrive Black, $1069

-vs-

2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1GB/80GB SuperDrive White, $1199

Which one do you guys think I should go for? The blackbook is definitely cool, but do you think I'll kick myself in the future if I don't opt for a Core 2 Duo system?

Thanks!
Dan.

8.8% tax is high

Tax is 14% here in Ontario (that's GST, and PST), 8.8% isn't so bad in my books.

I would go for the black one with it being that cheap. When people see a Black Apple computer it turns heads. And in my opinion it is cheap enough to justify it.

if $130 isn't a big thing for you, i can't think any reason NOT to get C2D.
