Best Video Camera Set Up in Car to Capture Accidents and Police Stops?

I film the majority of my days. Luckily I've done this with my iPhone, iPad and way back in the day my Flip Mino HD. I've had car mounts for all of these, specifically in the dash or rear view mirror area...

Though with the low prices of cameras everywhere I wouldn't mind investing in having a camera solely with the purpose of recording my safety should an unwarranted police altercation was to take place or say an angry driver does something crazy and a video can come handy in court. This is all precautionary and really am just thinking of spoiling myself by buying a dedicated camera for the car.
