A question for anyone with the experience.
I have a choice of either an ATI 9000 pro 64MB or a ATI 7500 32MB.
I've been using the 7500 for some time and am happy with it, but the 9000 pro has just become available to me and I'm wondering is it worth the switch?
Also are there any video cards for the cube that support Core Image, I notice neither of the above do.
And finally I think, at least from what I read on the web that the 9000 pro might involve relocating the vrm board, could this be so?

Stay with the 7500, the whole process of getting the 9000 in there isn't worth the gain. There are about three cards that can do CoreImage in a Cube without needing a larger Cube shell. Note: All Cube compatible CoreImage cards need to be flashed. No Mac edition card that has CoreImage will fit in a Cube.

The first is the most popular, the GeForce 6200. Make sure you get the correct one for this. They also run a bit hot in a Cube and need their a different heatsink or a GPU fan installed. You can get a different ROM that has slower clock speeds that generate less heat for use in a Cube. They can be had on eBay for about $20-$40.

The next is rare version of the ATI 9800. Very few of these were sold and they require external power and a VRM move. The last is some GeForce 6x00 card that I don't remember exactly what. It requires a VRM move and external power, the ROM for this card is still considered to be in the beta stage.

Thank you for this information, I'll more then likely take youe advice and stick with the 7500, it has served me well in the past, but you know- always on the lookout for any little performance gain.:D

One quick thing about the GeForce 6200 I forgot to mention, it isn't a gaming card. It has a 64-bit bus that limits its gaming abilities to be only slightly better than that of the GeForce 5200. Because of this, Cube's can't really game very well. Oh, and it doesn't have video acceleration in OS 9.
