You don't need to desolder anything, but you do have to tape the pins. In a Sawtooth, you shouldn't have to because it doesn't have a ADC capable APG slot.
You have to flash it with a Mac ROM for it to work first.
I also have a Power Mac G4 AGP Sawtooth and I was wondering if my Radeon 9200 would work. Apparently I have to tape it and desolder it!?
GPU flashing is not something I have done before so I can't say if it's possible with your configuration - but I can point you to a How To guide for flashing the Nvidia 6 Series cards >>> http://themacelite.wikidot.com/nvidia-general-flashing.
Also, you don't need DOS installed on your hard drive, you can use a boot disk such as this one >>> http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm.
Would a 9800 work?
I have a BFG 6200 laying around, can it be flashed with a XFX 6200 rom?
you know what rabidz, I am so glad that you feel the need to resurrect an old thread. Because Zen.State had made me feel pretty damn bad last July when my Mom was in the hospital for recommending you a 9800 card. And it has haunted me everyday since thinking to myself "don't mess up" every fricking time I go onto macrumors. But now I realized that even if you did go out and buy the wrong card you could just "recompile it" for powerpc![]()
Not being funny but what on earth has your Mum being in hospital got to do with you misreading a Wikipedia post & being corrected for it?
How exactly do you "re-compile" a video card?
