You don't need to desolder anything, but you do have to tape the pins. In a Sawtooth, you shouldn't have to because it doesn't have a ADC capable APG slot.

We'll I put it in my G4 without making any modifications and nothing showed up on the monitor. I put the original one back in and it works now.

You misread what he wrote. You do not have an ADC capable APG slot so you do not have to tape the pins. Use Google to search for "how to flash Radeon 9200 for mac" and start doing research.

No need to tape and desolder.

I also have a Power Mac G4 AGP Sawtooth and I was wondering if my Radeon 9200 would work. Apparently I have to tape it and desolder it!?

Only the newer G4's need a tapeing and/or modification

I want gpu and I want it now! It's your gpu flash it when you need it.

I have the GForce 6200. How do I flash it on a windows7 pc?

No DOS allowed, it is windows seven.

Would a 9800 work?
I have a BFG 6200 laying around, can it be flashed with a XFX 6200 rom?

you know what rabidz, I am so glad that you feel the need to resurrect an old thread. Because Zen.State had made me feel pretty damn bad last July when my Mom was in the hospital for recommending you a 9800 card. And it has haunted me everyday since thinking to myself "don't mess up" every fricking time I go onto macrumors. But now I realized that even if you did go out and buy the wrong card you could just "recompile it" for powerpc

Not being funny but what on earth has your Mum being in hospital got to do with you misreading a Wikipedia post & being corrected for it?

How exactly do you "re-compile" a video card?

It's a joke here in this section. rabidz7 is a user with all of these crazy schemes to run Intel software on PowerPC, and one of his ideas was to "recompile" a EFI hack to work on PowerPC Macs. If you want some entertainment, you should read this thread, though it probably will make your blood pressure rise.

Try it and find out. If you've made a backup of the ROM, you can flash that. Don't forget to change the manufacturer IDs etc.

I remember reading back in the day.. not too long ago that the best AGP 2x card for a sawtooth was the ATI Radeon 9800.. but that the power supply had to be updated to 237W as the 200W PSU couldn't handle it. And it required a mod to get it to work right. I believe I found it on xlr8yourmac.com

For what they're worth:

Benchmarks that include two versions of Radeon 9800 in a G4 MDD.
Link

Benchmarks that include a Geforce 6200 in an upgraded G4 Cube (same bus speed as a Sawtooth).
