Thanks Eidorian!

I'm just looking for a rough idea, and wouldn't be in the market for 2-3 months... My iBook (14" 1.33ghz w/768) is just too slow for FCS, hopefully a Core(2)Duo machine will show a big enough improvment...

Thanks For the help everyone!

2-3 months looks like a good timeline. There should be refurbished Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros by then. Any chance of getting an education discount?

Do you get edu discounts for HS, or is it just collage?

Can you use edu discounts on refurbs?

If i could some how possibly get the 17", would it be worth the $$$ for the upgrades it offers?

Also Would the difference between the low and high end 15" be worth the price?

THANKS AGAIN!!

Just college or a K-12 teacher/staff. The 17" model is a big leap. The 15" model falls in more for your budget and you already have an external hard drive.

Hmm... Well, my mom is good friends with quite a few teachers...

Ok, i guess i'd go for the 15" MBP C2D, unless something is released in the next 2-3 mo.

The MBP Seems like it'll be quite similar in performance compared to the iMac...

Thank you

The ultimate machine for the $$$ is the 24 inch Imac....

24 inchs is awesome!!! and that baby is powerful enough to cut a feature film.. in comfort!!

cheers

I second last post. The 24" iMac will hold up well. I had an ibook first and although it ran FCP, and I even did some small projects on it. Problem was the small screen. Even if you can hook up an extra screen to the MB, the 13" screen is quite small

a 20" iMac with upgraded video card, and 3 party ram will be fine... i used my imac to edit and its been fine... ( i say 20 cause you'll want the extra screen space
