You do have to wonder how VPN providers who throw about cheap lifetime subscriptions will manage to maintain a business model in the future. My guess is that they won't, going out of business or you become the product.
There are so many shady VPN providers out there it's scary. Considering what can be at stake for VPN users then you better be darn sure you pick a reputable one.

EDIT 18/11/20: I can no longer confidently recommend this site as unbiased. They have recently sold their content to another company which has advertising disguised as ‘Top Ten lists’.
