Best way to clean cotton watch bands?

I have a few cotton watch bands and they are looking tired, what from your experience is the best way to clean them? I was thinking jsut thrown them in the washing machine with a load, but worried about the buckle and connectors.

Recommend is hand wash with soap.
but if you put them in a knotted sock and chose a soft program imho it could work

I just wet them and use some soap to rub it against itself. Rinse well and let dry and it looks great.
