I'm wondering what the best strategy for getting a White 64GB iPhone 5 with AT&T is.

Last year it took up to 30 days for the people who preordered to get their iPhones which makes me weary of preordering and I'm not sure if they'll arrive in the mail on the 21st.

I'm wondering what the best strategy is to use to get it on launch day.

1. Call around every nearby AT&T & Apple store to see if they have one on the morning of the 21st. This will be difficult because I need a 64gb model, not a 16gb/32gb one which is hard to find. Though it might mean that they don't sell out as easily.

2. Preorder but risk shipping delays.

Any advice?

I would just try to be in the first round of pre-orders. Shouldn't be that hard if you do it right away.

Preorder early. All people who preordered early got theirs on the day promised (me included).

Otherwise, just go make a line on the local Apple Store and pray you are within reach of stock units.

Will it arrive at my door on the 21st though, or will it be shipped on the 21st?

I've never preordered an iPhone before.

People don't tend to buy 64gb models let alone want to dish out $400 or more for a new phone. I think you'll be fine but just keep on your toes.

Last year with the 4S, as long as you preordered it from Apple.com on that initial Friday morning before about Noon ET, you got the phone delivered to your home/office on launch day. Beginning that Friday afternoon and onward, availability became quite scarce for the next several weeks.
