Best way to keep two macs in sync

I have my iMac and my MBPr. I want to have them both sync a few times a week. I know i can start with a CCC from one to the other, but what type of program will sync the two and have the ability to select or deselect certain folders?

CCC is intended more for cloning the drive to an external. Take a look at Chronosync.

Have a look at Chronosync from Econ Technologies. I've used it for years and found it very reliable. It's relatively cheap and once you've bought a licence, you'll get free updates for life.

I have an iMac which is permanently on, and which is backed up to two Time Machine external disks. I don't backup the laptop (Macbook) directly to Time Machine. Instead I use Chronosync to synchronise the Documents folders on the laptop with the iMac, so I can work on the same documents irrespective of which computer I'm using, but it allows me to exclude certain subfolders (e.g. the Microsoft Office settings folders, or Parallels) where the laptop and desktop have different uses.

You can set Chronosync to run scheduled backups.
