Not to hijack the thread but I'm thinking of selling my iPhone 4 too, not to switch to verizon, just because I always liked my 3GS. It's jailbroken on 4.1 with the 1.59.00 baseband.

Here's my question, better $ return if I restore it to a fresh 4.1, then jailbreak it, and unlock it. Or better to just restore it to stock 4.1 and leave the jailbreak/unlock up to the buyer?

How common are the problems on eBay? Am I protected from these problems if I have signature delivery and insurance etc?

You're not protected when the moron you sold an unlocked, jailbroken phone to plugs it into iTunes and updates it to 4.2 then files a dispute with PayPal/eBay because the phone isn't unlocked/jailbroken and says you lied to them. You'll either have to issue a partial refund, or issue a full refund for them to send the phone back. And if they break the phone (not to mention the fact its no longer worth near the $ because its not unlocked) and send it back to you, eBay/PayPal will still issue them a refund from your account (which has been frozen this whole time, BTW) and now you're out the money and have a damn paperweight!

eBay can kiss my fat, white ass!

So how do you cover your own ass when selling a iPhone on ebay to make sure the buyer doesnt screw you like this?

Yeah I would like to know this as well. Is there a single foolproof way to GUARANTEE that you won't be screwed by PayPal siding with the buyer?

You really can't. I mean you require signatures when shipping, take pictures of the phone working along with the serial number. Still if the buyer disputes it, ebay/paypal usually sides with the buyer. Its really not worth the hassle.

I go with Craigslist and do a face to face transaction (in a public place) and deal with cash only.
