I feel like there should be a good solution to this, but I can't think of a good app for this. My problem is that I'm trying to tele-conference with a colleague. My ideal solution would allow us to see & hear each other while allowing both of us to access the same document and write on it (say using Apple Pencils). Think of having a meeting with someone with a whiteboard, I need to be able to actively see, talk, write equations, erase equations, etc...

Is there a good app that does this? Obviously, there is Skype or others for video conferencing, and there is Google Docs for active collaboration for typing, but not handwriting (which is what I need for lots of math equations). Anyone know of a good way to have a virtual whiteboard meeting?

Just to provide answer for my own question, I found an iPad/internet browser app called Groupboard that does pretty much exactly all that I am looking for. Going to give it a try.

Judging by the Groupboard website, everything will work out well for you. :)

You found a solution but just wanted to mention another option that might be worth checking. Microsoft Whiteboard. It does work with Apple Pencil and you can invite people (having Microsoft account) to collaborate on the same board. My company is currently setting this up because of this long period of working from home.

I still have not used it so I cannot share more details. If I get the chance to use it I will share my experience with it. I would also check Groupboard. Thanks for mentioning it!

Perhaps you could share the notes app with your colleague and communicate over FaceTime? To my knowledge, FaceTime is the only video conferencing app which can run on PIP mode, allowing you to access another app in the meanwhile.

The main issue would be exporting the notes when you are done with it though. Maybe one note?

I believe Zoom also lets you share a whiteboard. You will be able to hear, but not see, each other unless you use a separate device.
