Best Webcam Privacy Cover?

I want to cover mine, only because it's 720p 😛

But I'd think camera is of least concern when the the microphone would be a potential hack with lack of knowing
 
It's not the NSA, FBI, or any other world organization the average persons needs to be concerned with about this stuff. It's people like some of my nephew's friends, who get a kick out of downloading tools from nefarious sites and using them to break into the neighbour's wifi networks and scan for vulnerabilities and attempt to exploit them.

It's a pretty common thing for some teenaged groups to do. Just setup a honeypot in a VM sometime, and let it sit for a bit. Eventually, it will be broken into. (That's where my fun begins.)

Yeah but to rewrite the microcode on your computer those brats will need to be logged in to your computer with admin access. Otherwise there is no way to beat the hardware lock between the status light and webcam.

SIP adds another layer. Touch ID on the new machines goes further again.

Yep, they will, and they'll try. But, I'm more pointing out that a lot of people seem to believe that nobody will ever try to break into their stuff because they aren't the CEO of Facebook or President-elect Trump, etc. Don't have to be to be targeted. Just have to be connected to a network that the neighbourhood kiddies want to play around with. They think it's fun to do that stuff.

I think they'd rather use USB killer and run off laughing.

The webcam's light is hardware interlocked to the camera. If the webcam is activated the light comes on. The only way around this is if someone installed a malware on your system that could re-write the microcontroller.

Snowdens leaks stated that they can be turned on without the lights turning on, I don't know if it's still the case but I imagine a firmware could be uploaded to it.

A lot of these documents were proposals in badly made PowerPoint slides. Don't take them as literal or implemented.
 
Go to Staples or Walmart. There are plenty of small circular stickers that look cool and are the right size to cover the camera.

I'm not worried about the NSA or hackers but I do cover mine. I hate taking pictures and having a camera always facing me is annoying.
 
I find this whole thing hilarious. I've known quite a lot of people who do this, and they're all, well, weird.

When I see people with their cameras covered I can't help but think they're just irrational, or at the very least have an inflated sense of self-importance.

You probably aren't important enough to spy on, and even if you were spied on, what are they going to see?! Your gawping face? Oh no! 😛

Like I said, I don't having a camera pointed at me everyday.

I'm also NOT a 12 year old girl who updates here Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts every 15 minutes.

Doesn't have to be about a conspiracy...just being comfortable...
 
It's hilarious because people will cover their cameras but not the microphones, which will probably be the de facto method to spy on people (no light, no way to tell if active or not, etc).

Your plans are really sound here, please go on.

I believe that the touch bar MBP's T1 chip now gates access to the iSight camera. I'd imagine it's pretty much locked down. If it ever was a problem I'm pretty sure Apple have minimized the attack surface area at this point.

People give away more private details about themselves on their social media accounts than they ever could on their webcam. I'd feel sorry for anybody in the NSA to have to wade through this mountain of nonsense. That's why they have computers analyse the data and only check on suspects when a red flag goes up. Even then they need to get malware and use traditional spying methods in order to take a closer look. Let's hope no president ever forces backdoors by default.

I sometimes buy a sticker pack from the EFF, certainly cheaper options out there but I mainly view it as a donation
