BestBuy Apple Representatives

3 Jobs every teenager should be forced to work before becoming adults:

1) Food services: Fast food/Waiter. Sometimes there's a reason your food took so long.
2) Teaching: Not teaching mom gmail. Real paid teaching where you have to get someones attention
3) Housekeeping: Again, for strangers and for money. Spend 20 minutes scraping gum off the underside of a bench and you'll think twice before doing that again.

No. These are jobs that all adults should be forced to work with at some point in their lives. After working in both a grocery store and a Staples, the way that some "adults" treat retail employees is nothing short of despicable.

Ok I just got finished reading this whole thread and took in all the info. I do work for Best Buy and have dealt with both very knowledgeable people and idiots. Thing is that most of the less knowledgeable people do a fine job of selling because 90% of customers know almost nothing. For those customers who know more than the employee, that particular employee trys to match up that customer with the more knowledgeable employee. Usually there are at least 1 or 2 people working in computers that really know what they are talking about at any given time (at least in my store). Basically what I am trying to say is that I do expect all employees to have a general knowledge of the products and services they sell but would prefer a more in depth knowledge.

On a side note, the Apple Rep in my store has a very good general knowledge of his products but not a very technical one. I was actually the one to show him that the 17" pro had one extra usb port over the 15", and I once heard him explain the dual gpu's in the unibody pro as giving more power to the laptop instead of being able to switch between them. (I didn't want to correct him in front of the customer though)

Well it seems like you're a god worker. I think people should know what they are selling, and customers should also be calm when buying something. BB workers and other retail workers are only human.

As of now you are correct. But it may be possible with new firmware updates/software updates.

Listen, I get that some people who work retail are total tools, I get it! (I work with my fair share) Like somebody else in this thread stated, just give them a chance, and if they are idiots, then revert to how you typically act around retail goobs. I don't think that it would hurt anybody however to show some kindness and actually be decent to somebody when they come into a store and ask for help.

I really don't want to spout off and say I know more than so and so or whoever or whatever. All I am saying is that sometimes you can find some people who really know there stuff, and take pride in the jobs, but you have to give the person a chance to know if they do know anything about anything.

Usually a good indication that the person you are talking to knows there stuff, people from all over the store come and ask them questions about various things. :D
