Looks like there's a pretty substantial discount on the AW5 SS ($300 off the 44mm), which puts it at $450 (and I'll get another $50 back with my Amex platinum). I bought my SE 44mm for $250 and I can still return it if I want. I probably won't use the cellular feature, but I had a SS S2 back in the day and I really liked the premium feel, and I think that the sapphire screen will hold up better. The always-on screen would be nice too.

What do you guys think? Worth "downgrading" from the SE to the AW5 SS?

I would go for it. I love my AW5 SS. You’re right, it does have a premium feel. I would try the cellular just to see how you like it. It’s not that much per year, and it’s great not being 100% tethered to my watch even though I carry it 95% of the time.

I'm convinced! Ordered the 44mm SS from Best Buy and will be returning the 44mm SE to Amazon. Thanks!

I did the same thing. I have both at home right now. Trying to decide which to keep. I think the only thing I would prefer is the faster charging on the SE. I don’t think I’d use the AOD for battery reasons. Beside the altimeter on the SE anyone know of any advantages over the 5?

Im guessing battery life is the same with AOD off correct?

As long as the watch falls under the Jewelry and Watches return category, and not under Computers and Electronics, you should be ok with returning it.

I only got it in December, and they have extended holiday return window until Jan 31, so I'm good! Already initiated the return, just waiting for my S5 SS order to be ready at Best Buy.

It's not the return timeframe I was referring to, it's the category. Computers and electronics can only be returned if they're DOA, damaged or unopened. The watches and jewelry category doesn't have that restriction.

They seemed to accept the return request no problem 🤷‍♂️... I guess we'll see what happens.

But I'm glad I upgraded! The SS does feel so much nicer than the aluminum!

These says "unlocked"; change to a carrier like Verizon and the price jumps way up. Can an unlocked phone connect to any carrier?

All Apple Watches can be used on any network. Even if it was purchased through a carrier. None of them are locked.

oh wow, really tempted by the 40mm SS S5 for $399. I bought a SS S6 for $589 during Amazon BF sale, but not sure the S6 is worth $200 more, especially since the rumors are that next year will be a big design change...

Huge thanks to this thread. I’ve had a series 4 Nike with cellular since it came out. Has served me great and gave me no need to update. The always on display has had me tempted for a while. Finding a series 5 stainless steel with cellular for 449 because of this thread was amazing. Too good of a deal to pass up. I went with 44 mm in silver. I’ve had black aluminum since the original. Glad I changed it up.

I got a stainless steel s5 for my fiancé for Xmas for only 500 I was shocked at the price on Black Friday.

S5 is the best deal going right now. I wouldn't even consider an SE with $300 off of the S5.

I had the Ti6 and returned it for a Ti5 and saved hundreds and got not much less functionality.

Did you notice any battery life differences between the two?

There was a natural difference, but only because the Ti5 had been used for about a year. It sits at 91% battery health right now.

No cellular connection and only attached via Bluetooth to my phone, I can get easily a full day (6AM-11PM) with 30% left. AOD on.

I charge nightly overnight.

Great. Appreciate it.

I never had the S6 but I also bought my S5 Ti used. AOD on, wearing it from 8am-12am and for an hour during my daily workout and always end up with ~25% left.

I returned my AW6 Aluminum for the AW5 SS when I saw the deal Best Buy was running. $449 for a 44m SS AW5 was too good to pass up. The differences between the AW5 and 6 are extremely minor.

Thanks for the heads up! Got a SS AW5 in black with a black Milanese band. Always wanted that watch! must have AOD and missed my SS series4. Blue aluminum is cool, but wanted SS. This sale took me over the edge!!!

Still debating AW5 SS and 6 Aluminum. Picked up an aluminum 6 Cellular yesterday to try out. Have a 4 SSSB. Most interested in AOD, but BO and faster charging are good.

The 6 cost $509; a 5 SSSB $450 at BB, still available. So +$60 for the 6.

While many say in real life the 2.5x brighter display is not noticeable, there are a few reviews that say it is. To me the AOD is a key factor.

Had the 4 for 2 years; plan to keep the 6 (or 5?) 2 years; even if the 7 is a new form factor and has more significant ugrades, would wait for the next iteration for kinks to be worked out.

Negative to the aluminum is screen and case. My 4 looks brand new; the first 4 I tried was aluminum, and had noticeable scratches on the screen in the 14 days return period. And I'm careful with a watch, having always worn mechanicals.

Any more feedback on and difference in the AOD between a 5 and 6?

No difference on the AOD between the 6 and 5. My son has both. He prefers the SS 5 over his aluminum 6. That’s what caused me to pick up the5 even tho i have a 6 and had the 4 before. Charging and battery time is about the same as well. You just miss out on the BO which we never use anyways.
