Apple bought out Intels celular division or it was gifted to them as a lawsuit settlement either way Apple now has patents to create its own 5G cellular radios. I hope they don’t use them.

I was editing and hit post
Yea, I see your edit.
Don't worry about it. 100% no Intel modems this year.
It's going to be Qualcomm modems until Apple is satisfied with their own in-house ones which could take another couple of years.

Apple paid Qualcomm $4.5 Billion to be able to use their 5G modems for the next six years
Of course there's a Qualcomm modem in the iPhone 12 (and 13 and 14 and 15..)

Apple won't launch 5G modems that are inferior to Qualcomm. I hope they do use them in the iPhone when they're ready. This will likely mean 5G Macs in the future as well.

Apple is nowhere near ready to use their own modems, hope they never end up using them, don't want intel trash modems in my phone, It's been known for a while now that the 12s will be using Qualcomm modems. 😊

The only time I had trouble with Intel was with my Xs Max and that was due to Apple’s poor phone design.

I hate the intel modem in my XS Max. I had to switch from T-Mobile to Verizon in order to have better coverage with my device and it makes a world of a difference with Verizon. I have service in places I never had with T-Mobile. I truly miss the Qualcomm modem I had in my iPhone 7+.

I’d say Apples propriety Modems are a minimum of three years out, but undoubtedly they want control over there on hardware. The Qualcomm experience far exceeds the junk Intel modem that’s plagued users for years.

It’s inevitable that eventually Apple will use their own in-house designed modems but I’m sure they won’t put them in unless they’re better/on par with the latest gen Qualcomm modems. They bought that Intel division purely for the IP. I doubt they’re iterating on the last-gen Intel modems and probably started from scratch.
