It seems after I have installed beta 7 my location services are being used almost every time the screen wakes.

I have turned off location services by an app by app basis so only the system services are trying to find my location and it still occurs. On previous betas it would only try to detect my location when i swiped to the widget page, with the weather widget active. Now as i mentioned before it seems like every time the screen wakes. (iPhone 5 SE using raise to wake)It is also happening randomly when just using the phone.

Does any body else have this problem ? or have i missed something in the bug reporting post about this.

I am considering a wipe to try and see if it makes a difference, but i am just checking before to see if it is happening to other people if it is ill live with it till the next beta or the final GM.

Well if system services are using location not sure what the question/issue is. Things like frequent locations and all that other stuff in system settings will most certainly use location unless you turn them off. Look for the purple arrows to see which ones seem to be more offending and turn those off if not really needed. That should help narrow down whats using it.

I use the Find my Friends, and the weather widgets. Every time I turn on my display, I have the location service arrow and it eventually goes away. As long as I don't see a large battery drain, I couldn't care less if I have the icon there. Also, my Apple Watch is checking what the weather is to update itself.

    Hi

I don't use find my friends and would turn it off, for daily use.

In system services I only have compass Calibration and find my iPhone selected. I don't share my location and frequent locations is turned off.

I haven't yet noticed if it has an impact on battery life as I have recently just come back from holiday in an area of no phone signal but when it does something that it hasn't done in previous betas I was checking if any body else has this 'feature'. If kind of sets of my OCD

Do you have background refresh turned on for Weather? It could be looking for your location upon waking your screen to update the widget and app in the background.

Just turn off the Status Bar icon and this way you won't notice when the System Services are using your location. I've not seen any location related battery drains in iOS 10 so this way I know when my location icon is on, some 3rd party app is using my location, and I've more often seen issues with those than with system services.

That could essentially just hide potential issues, like potentially the one described in this thread.

Absolutely. I was just sharing my experience which is that most of the battery-drain issues I've had from location were tied to 3rd party apps, rather than system services. Since the OP was not experiencing any battery issues (just the annoyance of that icon showing up all the time) one solution is turning off the system services location icon altogether, while another solution would be turning off the Compass Calibration features.

While I see what you are saying, I think at least in a case like this one, figuring out why the icon is constantly showing up when it wasn't doing that before and it's not happening for others (even if it might not be having a noticeable battery effect) is probably a still good idea vs. just hiding it.

Again, I agree. My post came after the OP concluded it was the Compass Calibration. Which is not uncommon at all, and has been very aggressive in iOS 10, but without any effect to my battery life. Thus my suggestion to turn off the System Services location icon.

My situation is this: I have all location system services turned ON, which causes the location icon to be on all the time, which makes it useless so I disable it for the system services. This way if the location icon comes on and stays on I know it must be a 3rd party app and since those are historically more likely to cause battery drain than system services, I have cause for concern. Thus my mind is at ease because short of a bug, Apple does a great job at managing their system location services to not affect my battery life.

    Hi

It seemed a restore using iTunes solved the problem.

I had updated over the air since beta 2 which may have been the cause of the irregularity.

This seemed to cure some speed issues too

    Thanks for the replies
