I was poking around in Lion tonight and noticed that in "About This Mac" under the storage tab, my Blu-ray drive shows up as being capable of burning BD-R disks, in addition to the usual CDs and DVDs. Up until now, I've had to use Toast to burn disks.

So out of curiosity I stuck in a blank disk and the Finder recognized it.

Anyone else notice this?

That's been around since SL. It just treats it as another optical device. The real issue we're all interested in is support for decoding of Blu-ray movies, which isn't going to happen (unfortunately).

This piqued my interest:

Would that not work? (I don't own any BR drives yet, though I do own movies in BR format. I'm tempted, when I buy a 2012 iMac, to use that and an external drive...)
