People drop their computers/electronic devices all the time -- that's how third party stores can make a killing repairing iPhones at a cut-rate. That's the reason Apple installed the sudden motion sensor in these things in the first place -- people knock them off the table, pets kick them over, etc. It just happens.

Weird note -- mine was working awfully, mainly because a DVD had gotten wedged in the superdrive and had sat there for 2 years because the bottom pan was dented. I just opened the casing the other day and took out the superdrive (who uses optical drives these days anyway) and found, to my surprise, that the whole computer runs a ton better. Weird.

Your Mac was tired of watching the same movie over and over again for 2 years. I'd run shower too if somebody made me watch the movie for that long as well.

Ha, if only. I'm a big fan of season 2, disc 2 of the West Wing. But it gave up about a year and a half ago. :-(

People drop their computers/electronic devices all the time...

I've owned laptops for 10 years and have never dropped a single one. Laptops are not small hand-held devices like phones or mp3 players that can easily slip out of your hand and applying a bit of common sense can easily avoid many mishaps. OK, accidents do happen but I wouldn't say people drop their laptops 'all the time'.

How can you be as old as I think you are and not see what you're doing?

As in, just because YOU haven't ever dropped it doesn't mean other people haven't either.

I don't see how you state your own personal experiences and opinions as fact. How do you do it?

Seriously -- sample size of 1 = not good enough.

"Dropped my laptop" (exact match) = 3,400,000 matches on Google. I'm glad you're proud that you haven't dropped your laptop, but we're not all as special as you.

What? 1 is a great sample size; every esteemed study done known to man has had 1 man as the sample. You don't need more than that, right?

I'd say 'relieved' rather than 'proud' would be apt and 'special' would be a bit of a stretch.

Seriously -- sample size <>1 if you've bothered to read the posts in your thread. Also 3,400,000 matches on Google does not indicate each are separate incidents or that the incident even occurred for that matter.

"Dropped my laptop"... darn! There goes my laptop! :D

I don't think... my 07 blackbook did; I never heard the drive being parked Like I do whenever I move my MBP.

But I have no idea; I'm basing this on sound alone.

I had a 07 blackbook. It had it.

You should know what kind of person you are. He never dropped his laptop because he might be that kind of person.

In my 5 years of owning macbook's / pro's, I've only dropped it once and that's because it slid off my bed and hit the floor 2.5 feet below the bed. Left a small dent from landing on a pen but no real damage.

If you're someone who is prone to drop a 2000 dollar computer, then be more careful. If you can't, then buy a hard shell for the aluminum macbook pro.

Though, bottom line: Plastic or aluminum are both relatively hard materials and transmit shocks fairly well. You're just lucky you dropped your mbp that many times and still have it working.
