Hi

I´m buying an Apple Watch because my old Watch 4 Stainless broke.
So, I´m between choosing Watch 4 series Stainless Steel or the 5 Watch series but the one with aluminum case.

What you would do if the options would be that ones?

Definitely the SS option. It's fancier and seems more professional in many aspects.

IMO, If you would like to practice a sport/casual or looks life more relaxed, just put through a sport band. But the opposite is not possible since the Aluminum version cannot look more serious.

Additionally, the AO feature is not a must to have in the S5 version.

Wishing you good luck and post photos later.

Both are good options but I know you can now get the SSS4 cheaper than an aluminium S5 so based on experience of the two, I’d go for the cheaper one. Based on looks though I’d go for a space grey aluminium over a stainless personally.

At this point, I would just probably upgrade to the Series 5, unless you absolutely want the stainless material and sapphire display again, then your choice would be obviously the Series 4.

If you absolutely MUST get a watch now, get the 5. Otherwise wait until after the keynote and see what's coming up next.

I just got my S5 SG aluminum (got a great deal through Verizon on Memorial Day), I think the always on screen is a major upgrade. If you can wait until the fall for the S6 wait for that, otherwise I would wholeheartedly endorse the S5

I’m struggling with whether or not to go ahead and upgrade my series 4 to the 5 with the always on display. I know there isn’t much difference between the 4 and 5, but also probably won’t be much difference between the 5 and 6.

Based off your threads, You seem like the type of person that would suffer from ‘buyers remorse’. And what I mean by that is, why don’t you just wait out the few months to see what the Series 6 offers? The Series 5 will still be available somewhere if the Series 6 doesn’t intrigue you. The only way I would recommend the Series 5 at this point, is if you’re Series 4 broke/was inoperable.

She already created a new thread this morning talking about her new purchase :)

You’re right about that, and I probably wouldn’t have done it except I got the series 5 for 299, and I sold my 4 cellular (haven’t used the cellular at all) for 270. I just figured for that price difference, I wouldn’t really wind up having too much remorse.

That’s a great price for the Series 5. In hindsight, for what you paid for the S5, then I probably would’ve opted for it as well, even with the Series 6 likely debuting in September. Enjoy.

Thanks. Even at that price I almost just didn’t, but if series 6 doesn’t offer much, I’ll be glad I got this for $100 less and enjoyed it a few months longer.

When Amazon had them for 299, I checked them out and the silver was gone. I did a search for Apple Watch series 5 thinking maybe Best Buy would have a deal, and Wal-Mart had them for 299 with free 2 day shipping. Couldn’t resist.

Black SS series 4 all day long. I wear mine daily at work and it gets beat up. Not a mark on glass or the black stainless. looks like brand new 1.5 years later. I had aluminum and returned same day... geezus it maybe lighter but it marks easy as heck. will buy same one when 6 comes out

Agreed, I would wait too personally. Check out the refurbished store if you are in the US.

I am still deciding whether I should get the Series 6 Nike Space Space Grey or Stainless Steel Space Black

I don’t think the refurbs are cheaper than the sales out there on new ones right now.

If it was me, I personally would opt for the space gray stainless steel, and the reason is, I really like the DLC coating on the casing, which essentially is ‘scratch proof’ for the most part coiled with the sapphire display. It does cost significantly more, but if you can appreciate the protective finishes that specific model watch offers, then it pays for itself.

Agreed. I really like the look and durability of the Space Black DLC. I have the S2SB and had the S5SB. I will probably get the SB as I really like the look. Which one will depreciate quicker do you think?

Unfortunately, the stainless would depreciate quicker, simply because there’s not enough demand and/or market for that specific model. Consumers have no idea that It includes a sapphire display and they certainly don’t know about the DLC coating on the space black model. Not to mention, when we look at smart watches in general, I don’t think consumers want to really spend that much money for something when they all really perform the same functionality. The aluminum has much better resale value long-term.

Go for the aluminum, if you ever plan on selling you will never get a premium for the stainless steel. I talk from experience. Of course if this does not matter go for the SS.

I agree with you entirely and I don’t think more awareness of the stainless model having a sapphire display would necessarily encourage it to sell more either. The aluminium is priced to capture most of the market at £399 and is already more expensive than many of the Samsung, Garmin and FitBit variants that compete alongside it. The edition AW’s costing £699-£1449 are essentially the same watch with varying degrees of more expensive cases and a less scratch-able glass panel. They appeal to different types of people I think.
