Wow. I read it all. That's a horrible experience. I'm glad you complained about it.

i have another best buy store @ 423 in richmond...this was not me but best friend...he was trading in his 32gb 4s

PreOrder Day 1...1st in line for PreOrder and wanted the 64gb, placed order no problem

Friday (Launch Day)...1st in line to get phone...

Trade-In...Let him trade his phone no problem for $300

After trade-in..."May I have my 64gb Black Iphone 5 please?"

Best Buy..."I'm sorry but we don't have any of the 64gb yet," even though you preordered

Friend..."WTF!!!!????"

Best Buy then wouldn't reverse the trade transaction so he doesn't have his old phone or new phone.

Luckily he called ATT and they gave him a $200 credit

Best Buy...you get the BAD APPLE!! ATT actually did well!

Ouch!

Thanks to those who have offered support. To the haters, let me clarify a few things.

1) My long detail was necessary when reporting it to Best Buy. I simply shared exactly what I wrote them. I could have provided a shorter explanation for those of you that want cliff notes but decided to leave it raw and unfiltered.

2) My young professional comment about what I do is in no way meant to offend anyone. I was simply pointing out that I work with customers on the programs I manage every day and if I EVER treated any of them this way, I would be let go immediately.

3) The fact that I finally got what I asked for isn't the point. If you think that, then you're missing the point. The point quite simply is Best Buy's HORRID customer service in this instance. Only after I threatened to not leave the store, call the police and the media, did they finally do something.

The entire point is that I was treated like garbage and not a valued customer.

The other point which is way more serious and a lawyer should be brought in is the fact that they committed a federal offense by handing you counterfeit money. I'm sure it's not the first time they have done this and it makes you wonder if they have a counterfeit operation being run inside the store. I'm sure the Secret Service would find your story very interesting.

I think there's a far simpler answer than accusing them of running a counterfeit operation. I imagine someone, either in the store or in the bank, neglected to check the bill in question. They likely didn't know it was fake and it got passed on.

Opening up a cash drawer and handing it to him is one thing, walking in the back for a few minutes and coming back out with a fake bill is another. Oh, and the fact that the store manager didn't return and another employee brought him 5 $20 bills does sounds suspect itself.

The real travesty here is that the 100 was not fake to begin with. BB employees judge the op, thinking that he switched the bill to a fake one. If the bill was actually fake they would never have given him 5 twenties in exchange and the police would have been called.

I agree they knew they were wrong and could not face the op.

----------

You sound like a difficult, unpleasant person.

So do you.

----------

So what's the end game?
What does the OP want? An apology?

Really?

OK, "On behalf of the employees of Best Buy, I am sorry".

/end thread.

I would have called the cops myself.

But it's outside the realm of possibility that he swapped the bill himself after leaving the building?

I believe him and don't think he was trying to commit fraud, but neither do I think they deliberately handed him a phony bill.

I haven't purchased anything from Best Buy since 2009. Most of the employees I've met there are rude and don't care about the customer and their prices are far above Amazon along with state taxes. If I am going to be gouged in the price, I better at least feel appreciated as a customer and not pressured into buying the first thing they point me to.

My cousin works at best buy, and want to hold my iphone 5 there for me so i didnt have to go wait in line at apple for it. I said no thank cuz, i don't give any of my pennies to best buy EVER.

He was so pissed off, not because of the best buy hate thing. But because he thought i was crazy. He's like who cares man! you can stroll in any time of the day and it'll be here waiting for you.

I told him i'd rather wait hours in line lol.

I hate best buy with a passion!

On that note its a federal offense to pass a counterfeit note. Its actually an offense to take it as well. Just the other day there was a similar story on the local news, a lady had gone to I believe it was Walmart and used her aid card and got a $100 in change. She proceeded to go to the store next door , the dollar store of something like that, they told her the bill was fake. She went back to Walmart and basically they told her once you leave the check out, its yours and your problem by law. You can do serious time, 5 yrs and/or $10, 000.

The problem is stores never look at the bills they give out, only the ones they take.

This wretched plot carries the foul stench of the Illuminati. This sinister organization must be stopped at all cost! :)

I've uploaded the picture I took right before my "wonderful" experience began Saturday evening. As you can see, there is a Best Buy employee sitting down in uniform as one of the mobile employees is working to activate and set-up her new iphone 5 (black box in front of her on the table). It's not the best pic from my iphone 3GS but it just doesn't look good for Best Buy to have this happening right in front of customers.

Also, as some have pointed out yes it is a Federal issue. I spoke to the Secret Service Agent in charge of the local counterfeit operation here and gave her all the information of the case including the Best Buy address, etc. They will take care of that aspect of this whole ordeal now.

I can't wait for the day that Best Buy announces it is bankrupt and liquidating. I will have the biggest smile on my face. They deserve nothing less after years of scamming people.

That company is a cockroach that deserves to rot into the ground.

EDIT: I didn't read your story by the way, cliffs notes brah. No one has time for that wall of text

So what you are waiting for is tens of thousands of people to be laid off? I hope you lose your job and have to live on the streets and beg for money and food the rest of your life.
P.S. I work for Best Buy. The six years I have been there I have never scammed anyone. I give my customers the option to purchase what they want. No one puts a gun to a customers head and forces them to purchase.

The drug cartels in Mexico employ tens of thousands of people too. Using your logic I should want them to keep working too, right?

I've never had a bad experience at my Best Buy, but I don't deny that it can happen.

I have spent the last 3 years looking for meaningful employment, so I don't want anyone to get laid off. I do wish the re-structuring would produce better stores.

As for the iPhone 5, I chose to pre-order through Apple.com. It was the right decision for me.

The entire point is that I was treated like garbage and not a valued customer.
That's because Best Buy has no valued customers. As someone who has watched them "grow up" here at home and spread across the country, I am quite disappointed they are the one that has survived this long. Finish your crap with them and don't go back, now you know.

Oh, and, what is wrong with all you weak-assed excuses for people? Reading is too hard? You're on a bloody discussion forum. Reading is a prerequisite.

I have a different Best Buy horror story. I went to a Best Buy Mobile store to pick up some invisible shields on Friday. Got home and did the install. On the first phone, there was a dent on the shield inside the packaging that I didn't notice until I put it on the phone. I put it aside to return and used the other one instead. That one was fine.

I go to a regular Best Buy in the morning to do the exchange. They take the defective one and give me a replacement. I get home, install on my phone, and notice there's black dye on the bottom part of the shield. Not wanting to go back to the same store again within an hour and annoy the CSR girl, I go to the Best Buy Mobile location again. The guy looks at the box and says "it's open...you used it...you can't return it." I tell him "dude, its defective...its not used...its bad." He proceeds to tell me that they don't ever have defective products and this was a user installation error. I say screw it and pay him the $7.99 to let him install a new one instead so he could "prove me wrong". He hands me back my phone and there's bubbles all over the place, not to mention hair and lint. He tells me "those will work themselves out over time". I walk out and drive back over to the real Best Buy and show them the dumbass's handywork.

Long story short, after them going through 6 different invisible shields to get one to go down right, I now have a perfect-looking device. Word to the wise though...avoid Best Buy Mobile stores like the plague. I'm pretty sure the only requirement to work there is breathing. By the way, do they even have managers?

Hey, some one else like me! I have been the exact same way about them since 2002 (I meant it when I said I wasn't shopping there again). Had a friend give me a gift card there and I made sure the only thing I paid was tax (I wasn't about to let them have free money but wasn't about to give them more than they already got, if I didn't redeem it they would have gotten her money for nothing).

And yes, I won't even consider them. I'll go look at toys in there cause I know I won't make any impulse buys cause I refuse to give them a dime of my money.

After 10 years I've softened some. If Best Buy came out with an ad campaign like the recent Dominoes ones where they said they knew customer service was very important and that they were one of the worst offenders out there when it came to having bad CS *and* I heard that they really had turned around, I might give them a chance again.

ANd yes, it was over one experience but I've never had good CS with them. ANd one experience so bad I don't give them a dime on principle. If they go under I'm going to laugh, particularly if it is cause of their horrid CS (I really want it to eventually bite them in the butt).

Yeah, me too. I always had great experiences at Circuit City, it's too bad they were the ones that went under.

At least there is still Fry's but they are quite a drive from me. So these days it's usually internet or Fry's if I manage to get over there.

Uh, why not? I mean they have to shop too. Are they not allowed to buy stuff? He might be off the clock and ready to go home and just getting some shopping done afterwards. And as long as he waited in line like everyone else and isn't on the clock, I really don't see the problem here.

And you can see I hate Best Buy, but I think you are being unreasonable here on this one.

----------

I vowed to quit shopping at Best Buy right after the most recent iPad launch.

My first iPad was having intermittent issues. I was able to demonstrate them to the Geeksquad employee but I was told they would have to replicate the issues prior to processing my return.

I was asked if I needed to make any other purchases at the store, and when I told them that no, I only needed to swap my iPad, they asked me to "browse the store for an hour or so" while they attempted to replicate the issues I was claiming to have.

This pissed me off because 1) the implication is that I'm lying about the problems. What if they were unable to replicate the issues? Do they then tell me to go F myself? Do they not receive credit for the item from Apple due to their product being faulty? If so, what skin is it off their back if they make the swap? And 2) what company asks a customer to "browse around for an hour" like I don't have anything better to do then walk around their store.

And this happened in San Antonio, too.

I can only assume this story ends with them processing the return just like you wanted?

Good story bro.

I doubt it. The reason I stopped shopping at Best Buy was over an item that had intermittant problems. Not even that expensive of an item (a VCR). Best Buy would rather treat you like a criminal that is trying to scam them than just make you happy and have a repeat customer (all I wanted was the exact same VCR but one that worked... if I was trying to scam them, why in the world would I want the same VCR? I work retail, I know what thieves are going after and it's not even exchanges for the exact same product).

Best Buy employees have EVERY right to shop there. My point is simply that we have had several former and current BB employees confirm that employees take shipment from pre-orders and buy it themselves. There have been several instances of customers that pre-ordered the iphone 5 receiving the e-mail to pick-up their phone which is system generated when your next up on the list and a shipment with your configuration arrives. However, those people arrived at the store and were told there must have been a glitch because their phone hasn't arrived. I am giving the girl in this photograph the ENTIRE benefit of the doubt, however, it just looks really bad for Best Buy employees to be rockin' iphone 5s at the mobile center when their pre-order customers still have no phones. In addition, it looks bad to see a Best Buy employee (in uniform whether on the clock or not) sitting down to have her new iphone 5 set-up. Appearances mean a lot but I am not saying this girl did anything wrong but it's the perception that's powerful here and it's not a good one.

That's a messed up story but ill be honest they've never ever have given me a problem with returns. They don't even look at it just return me my money for whatever it is. I've returned phone cases, headphones to name a few before no questions asked.

However , I did call yesterday about swapping this phone ( wifi issues) and they told me I would have to wait until pre-orders are fulfilled

WTH???!!!

I read it and in short:

Goes for refund on 2 Iphone 5's
Rude employee
Goes ahead with the refund ($100 bill)
Walks to truck and forgets he needs to buy something else
Goes back in and trys to pay with the $100 bill
Manager says it is fake
Complains
Manager is rude
Gets his money
leaves.

You missed the part where he rails against Best Buy for inventory logistics without realizing that Apple controls who gets what phones and doesn't tell them in advance, and rails against Best Buy for selling phones without filling all preorders without realizing that they have 18 SKUs and surplus of some and not enough of others.

The guy shouldn't have been treated rudely, or been given a fake $100 bill to refund gift cards he purchased on debit, but not everything in the novella was Best Buy's fault.
