actually it's a ductape case i made. structurally it's fine, save for the ding on the back.

Rock on!

I have clear package tape all the way around mine, and the same goes for my 5G.

Neither have a single scratch, same as my 1G nano when I gave it to a friend :) .

Well just in case this makes you feel any better,

if it was a old nano it probably would have been totally broken and unusable..........

at least it had the aluminum case and it still works.........

not that really would make me feel better but i tried....

If you bought it with your American Express, it is cover for 90 days accidental damage.

 Really?!?!?!

Is it the same with my dad's gold AMEX card? Does it work in South Africa?

... I've heard they break if you drive a car over them too. ...

actually :) the first nano survived being run over by a car I believe, arstechnica did a huge test on it. I think what did it in was throwing it about 40 feet into the air. So this one with its aluminum casing might possibly even fare better in the car test.

Oh did I say car? I meant tank... a really heavy tank.;)

I saw the Arstechnica article. Very good.

If you have apple care, is it covered by it?

Search for more bike riders who may have the same experience and then seek out a lawyer to file a class action suit. How dare Apple make something that is not totally indestructible! I thought the only thing that could harm a new aluminum nano was a bar of kryptonite.

Did you pay via a credit card? Some cards have a 15 day "o crap i broke my thing" protection policy. Call you CC and find out.

I can't help but wonder if a case would have helped at all? Sorry about you crash though.
most likely yes, if it was a hard one, the rubbery ones might have a little, but it's hard to tell.

maybe the thread title should be "Beware of people on bikes". You make it sound like it was the iPod's fault - very misleading to those who primarily just read headlines (unless that was your intention).

unfortunately, my only credit card was recovering from paying tuition.

just a regular ol' check card :/

I do agree that the title is misleading making it seem like the nano has a flaw of some sort

sorry to hear that. but it's your fault. buy nike armband! it's great. I always wear it when I am jogging or ride a bike. never fall off. for ordinary use, I wear lanyard so you don't have to take it out & in. just hangs around my neck. :)

I would still check, I think if it's a Visa or MC check card, it doe have some protections.

Really sorry to hear about your ipod nano. When i bought my ipod video, the the next thing i bought was some type of protection for it. spent like 20 bucks but didn't care because its protections a 300 dollar item. Try applecare hopefully they might do something for you.

nah, and I wouldn't expect them too. I'll just wait a month or two to see if they have replacement screens on ebay.

it still plays, so it'll be fine for the gym.

the back has a nice little dent too.

that's quite a spill to put a dent in aluminum..where were you riding?

Agreed. One cannot expect a "tiny" electronics product to survive their entire weight falling on it from such an accident. I'm sorry to hear that your new Nano is now pretty messed up, but your title is very misleading.

'beware of misleading threads'

Wow you guys are all being pretty hard on this guy. He's just joking around about "beware" of them...obviously not really thinking it not have broke when he fell on it, lmao.

Thanks for the information. I plan on buying a bike so that's good to know. Just checked on Apple website, they are sold for $29.

I was thinking the thread was going to say...."Beware of the new iPod nanos....They are irresistable..I just bought one each color!"

But instead, I read that and I feel sick to my stomach for you.

Hopefully you are rich and this doesn't even phase you.

It would kill me.

This thread made up my mind.

I'm not going to get an iPod nano.
What a piece of crap.
If I can't fall of my bike and land on my iPod without it breaking Steve Jobs can kiss my ***.

I'll wait for the Kevlar version.

I won't have started this thread with the BEWARE OF NANOs b.s. title.

I would have said DON"T DO THIS WITH YOUR NEW NANO... and show a picture of him falling off the bike... There's nothing to beware of in the nano itself except your own clutzyness.
