So I'm pretty new to this forum but I'm completely confused, please excuse me if I've mistaken or missed something. I've been on android forums mostly and it's broken down by phone models. Does this forum not do that? You know like iPhone X or iPhone 7/7 Plus as an individual model.

I have the iPhone X as well as an iPhone SE in the family and I honestly would like to just go to a group specific to each separately. Everything just seems jumbled together here so I'm having a hard time really searching for what I need. For example: I type iPhone SE battery in the search and then I get a ton of post that mention those individual words, even if it's a post that is initially talking about the iPhone 6. It's super confusing not to mention a little frustrating. Any help would really be appreciated. I didn't know where to post this, sorry if it's a misfit.

Nah you're fine asking here. You're pretty much right as far as organization goes, though. All iPhones are lumped into the same forum but it's still very easy to get answers to your questions as it's a very active forum. As for the search function, there's an option to display results based on only thread title and you'll get far more refined results that way.

Not broken down separately. For Android you need to do that because there are 100s of different models and they all could be running some different/custom version of Android. For iPhone there's only a few models and at most 2 or 3 different versions of IOS.

It's probably just better if you ask your question and people will help you out.

Welcome to the forum!

The reason why the Android forums are so fragmented is because there are many different manufacturers playing in the Android arena. By design, there almost has to be a different sub-forum for each make and model due to how much they vary. From generation to generation, iPhones all run iOS and are made by the same hardware manufacturer, so there's no need for it here. As several posters have already stated, this forum is very active and regardless of which model of iPhone you have, you should get your answers quickly.

Just to add to the other comments…

Because of the way Apple does things there is a commonality between all versions of iPhone and all versions of iOS. Not everything is the same of course, but in general the way you would use an older iPhone is similar to the way you'd use a newer iPhone. Parts are similar, etc.

Because of that there is really no need for the mods here to break things up. Issues tend to cross models and versions of iOS so you'd end up with threads talking about the same thing in multiple forums.

Better to have one forum where a discussion thread may be pertinent to more than one version of iOS and/or model of iPhone instead of multiple forums with multiple threads on the same topic.

As to important differences, the users here are knowledgable enough to point these things out in the discussion threads. So, that makes it again, unnecessary, to have multiple forums.

To echo other thoughts, iPhones have much more in common than Androids. That's the beauty of it, when an iPhone X has an issue, it often is a common issue across the iOS. I find 90% (my rough estimate) of the threads relevant to me even though we all have 5 or 6 different phones. But to help your model year specific problems, search is your friend. This is what most people fail to grasp since every day there is the same posts about "why Apple did this" or "why X is better than 8+" (or vice versa). Same new posts repeat every day on the same topic. Androids are all made by 100 different companies that all put on their own bloatware (aka "customization"). Literally 100 different phones, with a touch of the Android platform remaining.

Thank you everyone! Yeah it is totally different in the android forums lol and yes a lot more active. I'm certainly not use to seeing so many of the same posts, so being here has been a bit overwhelming. I don't think I've ever scrolled through a site as much as I have here lol.

I try using the search bar (by thread title) first before making a brand new post on the same thing because then it just becomes redundant and you don't get as many helpful responses.

You will be fine. Just be careful when doing a search and make sure the search did not take you to some 5 year old post.

Have a good weekend and Welcome again!

I agree it would be much better here having separate sub-forums for each iPhone. They do have it separated for iOS though.

I am also a member on iMore and their forums are separated by model, which in my opinion make it much easier to focus in on things. But like others have said, this forum is much more active than on iMore.

For instance, people who don't have an iPhone X have to see all the posts on here about FaceID and other features on the X that don't pertain to them.

I think it's time for MacRumors to have "Courage" and make a change. :)

Yes, this exactly! Even though I have the iPhone X, even I was like my gosh is that the only phone people talk about on here. I feel like if I'd gotten the iPhone 8 I'd be annoyed because then I'm really forced to sift through all the other posts just to find some relevant to my phone.

I know I like seeing pictures of the phone with cases or stories on how much others are enjoying their devices and mini groups allow that to happen with ease, but here it doesn't seem like you'd be able to find that. Its like forming little phone families when everyone can just discuss their phone without a million and one posts of a phone they really could care less about lol.

This is currently the Face ID, Notch, and Do you love/regret the <insert iPhone model here> forum. No one discusses anything else, and there are only about 5 different opinions repeated across about 1500 identical threads.

you'll likely get better results if you use the options 'Search titles only' and 'Search this forum only'

(still not guaranteed to give you good results.. just as a first go at a search here, try narrowing using the above advice)

Yeahhh, but how many "Naked" or "What case do you recommend" or "Apple is great", etc, etc threads are common to ALL iPhones?

The way iMore organizes the threads is pretty convenient.
