Hello all! Just curious... How many of you out there are Bi OS? Meaning: Do you use both Mac and PC regularly? For what do you use each platform? Are both at home, or one in the office? What are their specs, and how much did each cost?

I'm not interested in starting a flame war on Mac vs Windows. Just want to see who uses both, and for what.

I have a self-made PC, 1Gh Duron, 256mb RAM, 40GB HDD, CD-Rom, 15" monitor, Logitech Mx500 Optical Mouse. The whole thing cost me $300 (after cannibalizing the monitor, CD-Rom and Keyboard from my previous eMachines). I use it for everything, including heavy Photoshop and QuarkXpress.

I'm looking into getting an iBook 800 Combo Drive for Christmas, for $1299.

Cheers!

Tri OS!

Mac OSX on my laptop, Windows 2000 at work and Linux (Suse 8.0) on my home desktop. I suppose I also have a Linux box at work as well (Also running Suse 8.0) and use a number of Solaris boxes remotly.

Yup, well... dual platform, if your talking OS's then I use...

OS 10.2 (home)
WinNT 4.0 (work)
Win2000 Pro (home + work)
Win2000 Server (home)
Win2000 Advanced Server (home)
WinXP Pro (home + work)

My main boxes at home that I use for work are:

QuickSilver DP1Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 80Gb HDD, GF4MX, SuperDrive, Dual Screen. Cost around £3,000 w/ AppleCare.

Home Built AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz, 512Mb DDR, 20+40Gb HDD's, Matrox G550, DVD, CD-RW, SB Live! Paltinum. Can't remember how much it cost, too long ago!

Also have:

IBM Stinkpad T21 (gonna sell and get an iBook 800), Compaq AP400 (dual PIII700Mhz, used as local domain controller and DNS server), and finally another home built PIII600 used as file server)

Mac running OS 9.2.1 (OS X isn't going near my mac, a 300Mhz G3 is too slow!!)

Atari 1040 STe running TOS 1.62 (well it still works, not that I use it these days)

I don't suppose emulators count do they ?

Just incase they do :

MacUAE, Workbench
NoSTalgia, Tos 2.06

yes i use both

i have an ibook 800 w/ combo 384 megs ram,
mac os X 10.2.2

use it for fun, recording mixes off my mixer, archiving vinyl, with my ipod and it its the perfect little comp for toting around.
and for school work as well,
im a mobile person so my comp has to be.

i (at work) have a dell pentium 4 1.6 ghz, 256 ram nvidia geforce 3 titanium

use it for office work, managin the system i run, and email,
(the occasional unreal 2k game for testing purposes;) )

i like both, but the ibook is my fave, infact i am at work right now typing on my ibook, with my dell sitting there unused and sad.

I try to use my mac whenever possible but I do also use windows.

Main: tibook with 10.2 for both home and work use.

Work: Dell optiplex with Windows 98(may be replaced with new XP box soon).

Misc: Old Compaq presario(given to me free) that at any time can have any combination of Win XP pro, Windows 98 and/or Linux Redhat. Its for testing only and the OS installed depends soley on the project i need the computer to test.

girlfriends house: New Hp with 2ghz P4 and Win XP home. For the price it has great performance, but i still argue that she should have gotten a mac.

Operating systems I use daily:

- Mac OS 9.x (for MIDI and audio at my homestudio)
- Mac OS X 10.2 (for the rest of my mac needs)
- Windows XP (laptop for work network/system administration)
- Palm OS (contacts and calendar)

And I use/manage the following systems at clients:

- Novell Netware 4.11 / 5.0 / 5.1 / 6
- Windows 2000 Pro / Server
- Windows NT 4.0
- Windows 95
- Windows 98 SE
- Cisco IOS
- Linux (not so often)

:D

Power Mac on OS 9.2.2
Windows XP Professional
2 x Windows 2000 Professional
All are used at the home office. The Mac for design and web pages. The PC's for testing PHP, MYSQL and using certain tools. I'll switch over all development to the Mac once I migrate. That won't happen until I buy a new Mac which I'm hesitant to do right now.

Bi OS? You're kidding for me! I ain't bi... oh... never mind. :D

I've got:

Windows XP (and Windows 2000, but they're similar enough)
OpenBSD
FreeBSD
Solaris (still intact on my stepdad's SUN Ultra 30 upstairs, I believe; but have used x86 version)
Gentoo Linux 1.4
Mac OS 7.6.1
Mac OS X (very rarely, though)
and finally, BeOS 4.5.

I use Windows XP the most, OpenBSD for the gateway servers upstairs, FreeBSD as a desktop UNIX workstation OS of choice, Linux as a hacking OS, Mac OS 7.6.1 for nostalgia purposes on the IIsi, Mac OS X very rarely (due to the iMac 700 being with my brother at college), and BeOS more often than Mac OS X, it's a very fast and fun OS, IMHO.

1GHZ wind tunnel (home)
600Mhz AMD Linux (RH6.2) (home)
800Mhz Vaio (work/home)
600Mhz AMD NT/W98 (home) (scarecely used since new Mac arrived!)

Unused Newton
Broken Handspring
Psion 5 as an alarm clock occassionally

Wanting a Sony/Ericsson P800 phone/PDA when they come out.

Use a PC at work.

Home I have a
XP 2100+
1 gig of ram
Geforce4 Ti4600
2 80 gig drives
19 inch monitor
MS mouse and Keyboard

Now that I got my iBook 800mhz I only use the above PC for gaming, and have been thinking of selling it.

That's a pretty Phatt PC setup. Are you running XP home or professional?

I run XP Pro on it, got it for free from a MS seminar I had to go to for work.

That's close to mine.

I currently have Athlon Tbird 1.4 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 2x80 GB (1 Seagate Barracuda ATA IV, 1 IBM 120GXP), GeForce 3, 19 inch monitor, MS mouse and keyboard. That's gonna change next week though to same processor (XP 2100+), same amount RAM (1 GB Corsair XMS series PC2700), GPU intact.

Btw, You've got a PM, demonx.

10.2.1 => dual 500 G4, 1 gig ram, orig hd + 18gb seagate cheetah, 32 meg radeon of some kind, 22" lacie => used as main computer, but I'll be moving a lot of my stuff to my PC soon

10.2.1 => B&W G3, about 400 ram => file/web server, soon to be mom's computer (doesn't want to fork over $1000+ to run iPhoto)

9.2.2 => 800 G4 powerbook, 512 ram => write essays (the pitter-patter of the keyboard is soothing in some way, he he), edit photos remotely... 9 is just so responsive :D

XP pro => dual 1900 xp, 1 gig ram, GF4 4400 ti, 120gb western digital, something like 7 or 8 fans lol. an alienware box that has run very well (but I'll never buy from them again...horrible customer service).

i've used solaris in a college class before. if it had been a desktop (and therefore a lot more responsive), would've been quite a workstation...

I'm using two macs, one iMac G4 and one iBook 700 Mhz.
I love those macs and am using Mac OS 10.2.2 on them.

However I am going to buy one more computer, that would be a windows box, I'm only going to use it to play one game, eve-online.

To find more info on eve-online, visit http://www.eve-online.com

1.2 GHz Compaq running XP Pro for games
400 MHz PowerBook G3 10.2.2 for everything else
