I have confirmed on both a 2017 iMac Pro and a late 2019 Mac Pro 7.1 that installing Big Sur 14.3 update breaks Thunderbolt over I.P. and the Macs with Big Sur 14.3 connected via Thunderbolt to my QNAP NAS TVS-872XT will not boot. The boot progress stops and hangs about half-way through. Removing the Thunderbolt connection from the NAS to the Mac and the Mac will boot with no problems. Apple broke Thunderbolt over I.P. in Big Sur 14.0 and 14.1, then restored it in 14.2 and have now broken it again in 14.3. If you have a NAS connected via Thunderbolt, I would strongly advise against installing the Big Sur 14.3 update.

I meant to say the Big Sur 11.3 update broke Thinderbolt connectivity to the QNAP NAS.

Hi Tom,
Confirming this is also the case with my QNAP TVS-872XT and an iMac with Big Sur 14.3. I have just installed 14.3.1 onto the iMac but still have no connectivity to the QNAP.

Relieved to find your post on this as when I hit boot issues I suspected a fried thunderbolt component, running the previous OS revealed all was well.

Movinglight,

I had to use a clone of MacOS 11.2 to revert my Mac Pro 7.1 to Mac OS 11.2 in order to restore working Thunderbolt over I.P. to my Mac Pro. I had to use Time Machine to revert my iMac Pro to Mac OS Catalina in order to restore Thunderbolt over I.P. connection to my iMac Pro. I filed a bug report with Apple explaining that Big Sur 11.3 would not even boot with a Thunderbolt connection to my QNAP NAS. I have no idea if Apple even reads these bug reports and not much hope that future Big Sur updates will restore Thunderbolt over I.P. connectivity.
