on my Mac mini I want to change the opening screen page to say a picture and this to stay after closing down and rebooting, does any one know of a way that this can be done ??.

What do you mean by "opening screen page"? Do you mean the screen where you type your password to log in and get to your desktop? Are you saying that's different from your desktop background/wallpaper?

Yes at the moment the login screen is that horrible orange /pink I want to have my own Jpeg picture,

Click on the small icon on the lower right corner of the opening screen and select the option you want.

I have no idea what you're talking about either.

Whenever someone gives cryptic instructions like this that don't seem to make sense, I wonder why they don't re-read their own comment and consider - "would a person out of the blue have a clear idea what I'm saying?"

If the answer is 'maybe not' ... then be a little more detailed.
