Get ready for emoji complaints from those who don’t use them and think Apple’s software bugs are due to the entire staff working on new emojis.
There is a reason why people are venting in emoji posts, don’t you think?

I don't use them beyond the basics, but I always wonder when does it end? Why do they need to keep adding really odd stuff like Bigfoot or an eaten apple? What purpose do these really serve, do we need a symbol for everything so emojis can rival Egyptian hieroglyphics?

I am somewhat confused by the lapse of time to add the new emojis? Approved emoji's in 2024 but not implemented by Apple until 2026. Is it really the design of the emoji or just convenience for Apple (and any other provider) to just release the changes with new OS/App updates?

News item : the unicorde consortium officially approves the bigfoot and apple core emojis.

We are living in a pynchon novel!

My take is Apple is trying to create a large library that will encourage the young kids to use. I also see it as a buying enticement for the same group.

I have accepted that emojis exist, but man, what unique emotion does big foot express? Instead of communicating human universals, they decided to pick and choose their favorite cultural blips (and hint: it's of course mostly American cultural blips. Nice universal standard, unicode).

It's not an odd add-on - it's a core emoji.

But we do need green and russet versions.

You would think in 2024 with iOS 18 that it would be smart enough not to show emojis for another iMessage user that’s running an older iOS version. o_O

Apple don't want to increase compatibility with older versions, they want everybody to upgrade by making as many bugbears as possible.

So many random emojis that I have no idea when to use like “apple core” and “distorted face”, but I still can almost never find the right emoji facial expression I want. I guess I’ll have to start using genmoji.

Every time I create a genmoji, I would like the option of submitting it to the Unicode Consortium for consideration.

"Esteemed Unicode Consortium,

I humbly submit my creation for your consideration as the next iconic emoji. I am certain the world is ready for an emoji that captures the unique expressions we all know yet can’t quite describe. Picture it: a Genmoji with that just-barely-hanging-on look, one that says, 'Yes, I paid $7 for a coffee, and no, I’m not proud.' Given the clear cultural value here, I trust that you will pay me handsomely—nay, lavishly—for this gift to digital humanity. I accept wire transfers, gold bars, and cryptocurrencies I don’t fully understand."
